WW1 wounded soldiers

Has anyone had experience of tracing an incident of wounding from the casualty lists in the local papers during WW 1 ?

My grandad was wounded and brief details appeared in the casualty lists in the Wigan Observer dated 14th July 1917.

Has anyone any knowledge of roughly when the wounding would have happened ? Would it be six or seven weeks earlier, or longer ?

Have tried to get info but there does not seem to be any out there. Any help would be appreciated.

Private 26109 William Hill, The South Lancashire Regiment. Deployed France late 1915. Discharged due to wounds in May 1918. As above, third and final wound reported in the paper July 1917.

Born 3rd April 1891, Higher Ince, Wigan.

Thanks, Winnie, I had no luck either. The reason for the query is that I have written up his war story from his discharge papers and regimental history. His battalion was involved in heavy fighting at the battle of Messines, early June, 1917. It looks probable he was wounded there, but I did not want to jump to conclusions. I will put a proviso in the text.

Many thanks for these ! I had no idea of the cause of the first wound. His second wound is recorded as shell shock, the third as gunshot wound rear right arm. The hospital details are really relevant to his story. Thank you very much for taking the time.

Sorry I couldn't find more except that some records destroyed by fire in 2nd world war bombing.
