The old Council Houses behind Leyland Park.
Is anyone on here who used to live in the old Council Houses behind Leyland Park in Hindley? Mainly Eckersley Avenue and Raynor Avenue. I know they have all been demolished and new houses built on them. I have found out they were nicknamed 'Little Hell' does anyone know why?

I knew a few people who lived "back ert park"but never heard it called Little Hell.Could it be little L maybe after the layout of the roads or because it was near Leyland park?It was an out of the way place and there were a few characters who lived there but also some very nice people.

Its like the place never existed. I was born in one of the Houses behind the Park as they were known back then, in the early 1960's.

Auntie Minnie & Uncle Ike Walker lived in council houses, Eckersley Ave.They kept coal in their bath & Auntie Minnie used to shelter young offenders when they broke out of the young offenders prison near Bickershaw. My 3 cousins are still alive, wont say any more.
