Horwich Loco Works Apprentice School

Horwich Heritage has lots of Apprentice group photos on display until next Friday.
Old boys of all ages,shapes and sizes are having fun meeting friends and identifying, or trying to, former colleagues. There are even some apprentice pieces to admire.
Tomorrow 10-1 and next week afternoons 2-4 Beaumont Road BL6 7BG

My late Father in law Harry Jones was a tutor in the training school. they put on a good show for such a small place some great old photos of proper engineering

I was there 1965/66.I remember Mr Cowap,Mr Merry,Mr Lowe,,Mr Harrison,Mr Cricketh? Mr Gerrard,Mr Lunt.Still have some of the tools I made there and a wooden tool box.Great instructors who set me up for life.Friday afternoon was first aid with Syd Tubbs then sport with Wilf Tompkinson,football,basketball.boxing etc.Very happy days.Sorry that I cannot make it.

went there this afternoon , so glad i did, wonderful experience. there were pictures of all the apprentice intakes from 1958 onwards, i found mine , and it brought back so many memories, faces i had forgotten, but recognised them as soon as i saw them. it is well worth a visit retep, if you get the chance, go.

I've filled in some names on the picture of the Jan 1961 apprentices which was put on by Tony Jones.There are still lots of gaps and one difference!

Only the first intake has all the names to faces because lots of people could remember faces but not names. The photos are now in a big file together with the pages for names so maybe you might fancy having a look to see how many more you can identify! I'm going to wave your list at Derek Cartwright who
had saved all the photos and was responsible for the exhibition. He'll love it.
