1909 Liverpool - New York

I have a relative who went to New York in 1909 sailing from Liverpool. Is it possible to find a passport application as she travelled under a different name and I am wondering if she had re- married or just used his name. Eventually she settled in Canada. Also her age is incorrect

She was Mary Elizabeth Stewart on the ships list. Her dad was the departure contact in England his name was Joseph Foster. Her husband is shown as W C Stewart arrival contact in New York. The date was 28 February 1909. Her age is shown as 28 but she is 33.
She was the wife of Walter Waring who she left her 2 children with when she sailed away. Eventually settling in Canada Thank you

Hi Annefair it is possible to trace a historical passport application, they are in the National Archives.

However they do say

"Before the First World War it was not compulsory for someone travelling abroad to apply for a passport.

Possession of a passport was confined largely to merchants and diplomats, and the vast majority of those travelling overseas had no formal documents."
