Frank Richards( Mr Universe)

Started by: wiganyankeeron (inactive)

Does anyone know where Frank lives? I have just sent the link to the video on youtube showing Frank, to Geoffrey Shryhane and I told him that he should write an article about him. He now wants to know how to contact him.
I think he lives somewhere near St Pauls Avenue?

Frank lived in Snowden Ave , Worsley Mesnes when he was younger. He has a sister called Rose who was in my class at St James school. I thought that Frank had died but I could be wrong (hope I am wrong!)

You'd contact Frank through 'Cat's Gym' in Orrell.

Hi Shiny, Cheers, I went to school with Frank but he probably won't remember me. I also think that he hasn't been recognised enough by his own town. That's why I contacted Geoff Shryhane, he's a friend of mine so I'll keep pushing him to do the article.

shiny I assume the mags u have are Health and strength? If so, have you the one featuring Arnold Schwartzenegger when he won Mr Universe for the first time? If so, it also features a female competition in which a girl called patricia hutchinson came 4th. She is desperately trying to get a copy of the pic/article. I even tried contacting the mag to no avail. Can u help?

Dark Horse. Have a look on eBay for back copies of the magazine. I have bought several 80's mags with articles by and about Frank on there. It's worth looking on a regular basis.

shiny can you ask Frank if he has a copy of health and strength with Arnold Schwarzenegger in when he first won Mr Universe for the first time (I think he ws 18 and living with Wag Benett). What I am after is the pic of the womens Miss Bikini that year. I think a friend of mine Patricia Hutchinson came 4th and she is dying for a copy of the pic. I approached the mag but got no reply. Thanks. Val

He knows, nowt better do with his time, apart from trying to cause trouble and spoil the site.

Has anyone got any contact details for Frank? A few years ago his daughter, or daughter in law, left a message on here in reply to a post about Frank.

Yes, back in the day Frank and his family did live near St Pauls Avenue at Goose Green
In the 1970s I did work for them, I was a landscape gardener

I recall Frank's wife saying he was about to start preparation for a major competition; this involved eating dozens of eggs each day
Their son was about 18 years old then and he was winning junior competitions

hope this helps

No idea where they live now

Remember when Frank worked for Crank and Burtons or Makinsons in the 60's delivering a fireplace we were installing...Usually it took me and the boss to carry it....Frank put it on his shoulder and carried it into the house...he was a bonny lad.
