I named it Love Island

If it's on Google Earth I can't find it

Here is the Link to GE

We flew from Makassar to Malili on the island of Sulawesi, Indonesia
Must be under that flight-path somewhere

Struggling to find your island. Apparently, there is a lot of conservation work in that area - dubious fishing practices (detonation of explosives) have destroyed many of the coral reefs thereabouts.

One of my brothers went to The Maldives this year - apparently they will be under water in the not to distant future.

Imontquay was second engineer. The trip taking in Australia was on a 166000 ton oil and bulk ore carrier called "The English Bridge" The whole trip including flying out to Japan to join her and flying home from Brazil 6 months aboard visiting various places, cost the grand sum of £25. Wow - you were obviously very close to that. Do you remember how you felt when you took that, were you scared?

Shame they rejected your pic at Honiara - its not exactly a huge place.

Honiara, I'm not bothered about,Don't think I mapped correctly anyway
I have a photo of sundown at a well in WA
Couldn't find the location anywhere, all this time I thought it was Cogla Well -

Now I find out it's Coglia Well
Back to the d/b.......

The bush fire was no worry from what I remember

This was taken in 1969 at Cashmere Downs WA
Not sure if they are fighting or mating
Goannas were about 6 ft long

It does Cordy. I never knew there were salt lakes in Oz

Replied: 11th Jan 2012 at 21:52

There are lots salt lakes, they actually sell salt to Japan and other countries in bulk loads
We had a land yacht too -- they go nicely over the flat hard salt
The lakes from a distance look like ordinary lakes
look up Lake disappointment

Did you have success with the nickel? I had a google, and apparently, the area where Hannan struck gold is considered the richest square mile of earth in the world. There is a super mine too (gold).

Replied: 15th Jan 2012 at 14:03

No, not much luck, though I did work for the then largest nickel producer in the world - International Nickel, a Canadian Company

They do have a large nickel mining operation in Indonesia where I worked on exploration
Soroako was a small village when I left in '72 - now it's a city with it's own airport etc
The Super-Mine in Kalgoorlie hadn't started when I left there

I once had a swim in the blue lake on North Straddie and when I was climbing out, there was one of them big buggars of a goanna on a tree trunk at the side of me clothes. Its not somethin' you see everyday next to the rose bridge lock by-wash, is it. It was unforgettable and wonderful.
