Don't have any info on the pit, but it's location was on the border of the golf course and plantation.
It was just to the West of where the railway turns away from the main drive and goes into the wood, which is south of the hall.

Thanks Cliff, Ive been looking too far over, near Mowpin Lodge. It couldn't be the flooded Kitchen Maid's Pond by the drive near to the little station?

No, its on the golf course.
If you go in a westerly direction from where the miniature railway is you'll cross over the main drive and through a hedge and onto the golf course.

I got the location off the Aditnow site.
