Whitledge Green
Anyone know what that old ruined brick wall (I presume it was a wall) was used for that used to border the land next to Whitledge Green in Ashton?. We used to play at on it when we were kids and we always wondered what it was used for, whether it was part of a building that was once there or just there to surround that spare piece of land. I know there was a fence connected to it which was trampled on most of the time, but the fence only went half way up the backs and ended roughly where the detached house is on the end of the row of terraces.

Seems like noone knows for certain what it was. I have heard about it being from airraid shelter, whether that's true or not I don't know, I used to hear that when I was young. Not sure about houses though, if there were houses there you'd think there would be more trace of it, and why clear the houses leaving and leave that wall as it was?. I assume old maps would show those houses, if indeed there were houses there.
