Pics posting tutorial

Started by: hieronymous (1755)

Perhaps Brian could 'pin' this?

This is for those who don't know how to post pics or are having trouble doing so.

N.B. There is an error in one of the screenshots where I have typed

at the end. This should be

[/img]

1. If you haven't already done so then you'll need to open an account with a pics hosting website such as

Photobucket

ImageShack

Flickr

This tutorial is based on Photobucket since it's what I know and am familiar with.

2.Once you've opened your account you can start posting pictures.

First, you'll need to upload your chosen picture to the pics hosting website. Using Photobucket you'll need to click on "Upload now":

3. After clicking on "Upload now" you will see this:

4. Click on "Select photos and videos" and it will open a window into your computer. Like this:

It should open a window into "My Pictures" though sometimes you may have to navigate there.

5. Select your chosen picture by clicking on it (it will highlight in blue) and then wait a few seconds for the upload to complete. For the purpose of this tutorial I've chosen "BUG level 69"

Once that's done then you'll see this:

Click on "Save and continue to my album".

6. Once done you'll be faced with this:

7. If you hover your cursor over the pic a drop down menu will appear:

8. On WW it's necessary to use the "Direct Link" so place your cursor over the "Direct Link" code, left click, and the code is copied into your browser.

9.This appears to be the bit that is tripping people up. Unfortunately you cannot just paste the code, you have to do a little typing as well. Return to the WW reply box and type:

[img="

Ensuring your cursor is correctly positioned to the immediate right of the " right click your mouse and select "Paste", whereupon the code will be "pasted" into the reply box:

Complete the process by typing, at the end:

"][/img]

Once that's done you can post and your picture should appear in your post:

I hope this is clear and is of help.

ecmdj,

Step by step is the way to do it. I found it very frustrating when I first tried.

Do you know what "tabbed browsing" is? It would save you having to print off all that info.

I'm not laughing. I remember only too well the strugglements I had when I first started.

I think it's possible that you do know what "tabbed browsing" is but are just unfamiliar with the term.

However, it will depend on what browser you're using (Internet Explorer, Firefox, Opera, Chrome, etc.) but I think they're much of a muchness now. I'm using the latest version of Firefox so my explanation is based on that.

I have 5 tabs open at the moment:

"Mozilla Firefox Start Page", "Inbox-'BT Yahoo! Mail", "Arcade", "Wigan Message Board", and "Pictures by Hieronymous"

If I want another tab I simply click on the large plus sign to the right of the tab "Pictures by Hieronymous" and another tab will open. I just need to click on any of those tabs to go to that particular page.

The point being that, if you have three tabs open:

1. The above tutorial

2. Photobucket (or whatever you've chosen)

3. WW Message Board reply box.

then you can go from one tab to the other without the need to print the above tutorial. You'll have to keep your mind on what you're doing though.

Hope this is helpful. Sorry if it appears patronising but I have to assume that you don't know.

Edit: Just had a look at Photobucket and it looks like you can create a slideshow in there. Click on "Tools" then "Slideshow".

Don't forget you can't see your picture in the reply box - just the code. The actual picture will only appear upon posting.

heironymOus,
I think that is one of the most useful threads posted on here, so many members want to post their pictures but can't get their mind round it,, and to have it put on as a "sticky" is great, in the past I have posted the line of code you get from "Photobucket" and how to alter it, but it gets lost by being lowered down and out of sight because of the amount of post that come after. I have even been able to refresh my memory with your sticky post.
Thanks.

PS aak Brian to each of the other topics as a sticky, please
Fred.

All I'm trying to do is to help those who don't know how to post pics or are struggling with it. As I said, I well remember how I struggled in the early days.

It's a bit more awkward on here with having to type those bits of text before and after the code but, I'm sure, if people take it easy and bit by bit they'll get there.

Thanks for the kind comments though.

Fred,

I don't fully understand your p.s. but all you have to is e-mail Brian and ask him. brian@wiganworld.co.uk

dave,

Have you copied the right code in your initial attempt? You need the "Direct Link" code.

Also you have to do a bit of typing i.e.

[img="

at the beginning and

"][/img]

at the end. I seem to remember dustaf saying that the inverted commas/quotation marks weren't necessary but I always put them in.

Let's see what happens if I copy the code from your second attempt and type those bits of text at the beginning and end:

Edit: That doesn't seem to work. You must have copied the wrong code.

You don't copy from the address bar. Hover your cursor over your chosen photo and you'll see a drop down menu. Copy the "Direct link" from in there.

It looks worse than it is, elizabeth. I just tried to make it step-by-step. No real need for a printer (though I can understand why), just open different tabs and refer back.

The main thing to remember is to type those bits at the beginning and end of the code as explained under the Reply box.

Why did my photo not get published?

You are a nutter, you try to show how smart you are, then you give so much complicated information people get confused if you look at the above line of code I have split it so that it does not show the pic of the butterfly, so when you get your code from photo bucket, change the beginning and the end as shown to give you your pic from photo bucket.beginning [/ img]

You mean this one whups.

He bounced back to his feet, raced over to Keane – who was prostrate on the ground – and spat some abuse at him for feigning injury, as did Wetherall.

Those comments are about Haaland whilst Keane was on the floor with a snapped knee ligament.

Uploaded by: Tommy Two Stroke to help us make photo's bigger so don't forget were you can find it to make them this size of, The Knife image in Coventry

The code for that is this

[*/img]

Except that the asterisk * I put in here [*/img] should not be there, I have put it in the link to break the link, otherwise the code I have put in the topic, will just show the picture, so the end of the code should look like that [/img] not this [*/img]

THANK'S FOR YOUR HELP TOMMY, was saving your link here so I would know where to find it
