Solar panels leaflet WMBC
Received today a letter and leaflet from Wigan MBC via GPO post man about installing solar roof panels on my house.
It is promoted by Wigan MBC and must be costing a small fortune in printing and mailing costs.
Thought Wigan MBC had no money.
Gone straight in my blue bin.
I do not thing solar panels save you money and you need to pay out several thousand before you get a return if ever

We got our bumph recently too, Whalley, but I must admit I didn’t take a look so have just searched online.
‘Join Our Solar Panel Scheme’ - www.wigan.gov.uk:
1. Sign up for free and without obligation before 22 October for the solar group-buying scheme.
2. An auction takes place and the installers who offers the best deal will get to offer you a contract.
3. After the auction you will receive a personal recommendation.
4. You have 6 weeks to decide if you want to take up the recommendation. If you accept, the installer will install solar panels on your roof.
5. After installation you will start saving money on your electricity by generating your own green energy.
I can’t seem to find a clear guide about example costs and potential savings though which would seem most helpful at the outset.

apparently many people have complained to the energy watchdogs, i believe about the expenditure over income not being as advertised.
rather like the idea that electric vehicles can do 300 miles before recharging, wildly optimistic, in practice nowhere near that figure.

Depending on which way you look at it, solar systems are very inefficient. On the other hand, they are very efficient because the power produced is free.
I have a solar system which I built myself. The total cost was round about £1500. It works well, all the lighting, Telly, water pump, hairdrier for t'mrs., microwave, but I have to put the generator on for the washing machine as it won't handle the start-up of the motor!

"Depending on which way you look at it, solar systems are very inefficient."
It's done all right for the last few billion years, inefficient or not.

Just think how much money has been saved on electric bills over that time!

I think it also depends on how old you are when they are installed. Anyone in my age group will find it difficult to warrant the cost, not much expectation of recouping the initial outlay let alone any profit.

It all depends on how you view solar power. You either install it yourself, for your own use, in which case it will save you money.
Or, alternatively, you can be 'reeled in' by someone selling something called "a package" which, invariably, will cost you dearly and will not save you anything at all.
Always beware of companies whose title includes "systems" or "solutions", selling you "a package" !
