Coach Trips

Started by: mindar (1334)

I fancy a few days away without the hassle of driving. Has anyone been on a Shearings coch trip and can you recommend them?

Never been on a Shearings trip, but had a day trip to Bronte Country with Grayway, and it was excellent.

I'm in Plymouth and we see lots of Shearring coaches down here. they seem very popular!I think they have their own hotel at Paignton.I would check out reviews on their website.

Mindar We did the Isle of Wight about 4years ago. A lot of time wasted if you use their feeder coaches( about £5 a day extra to park your own car). Their hotels are not the best to stay at and the itinery during the week left a lot to be desired,Spent all day Saturday travelling down then a full days tour round the island on Sunday instead of a day of rest.Had to been out of the hotel by 7-00am to catch the ferry home then stopped at services 3 times asked driver why so many stops told they can only go into base after a certain time. Once back at base which was about4-00pm had then to wait till after 6-00pm for feeder coach. Look up on trip adviser their hotels

After looking at the revues I think I'll give Shearings a wide berth. I may just take a city break and book the hotel of my choice. Taking the train will suit me fine. Thanks for the replies

We went on a trip with Sherings The Ring Of Kerry, I would go again it was a great week, And we have been on the Grand Tour to Italy & that was fantastic, anywhere in North Yorkshire is nice & it doesn,t take long to get there,

I wouldn't entertain sitting on a coach when you can visit cities like Barcelona or Madrid for less than £50 return and get a twin room for €30 a night!

Thank you tonker. Flying I take it. For that price it's worth trying. Which airline do you recommend, also Barcelona or Madrid?I haven't been to either city.I just hope I can fit something into my busy schedule.

Nothing wrong with Shearings coach holidays if you use your head when you book

We've been places and seen things that people flying would never see, both in the UK & Europe by coach over the years as my wife wouldn't fly, later we flow to new places to see new things but when you look at the price of coaching holidays now as said you can fly to Barcelona for under the price of a 5 day break in the UK

Ryanair have some Liverpool to Barcelona flights in September, £19.99 each way, that's just less than £40 return!
Booking.com for accommodation!
Cheapest car parking for Liverpool airport is In2Carparks (don't book, just turn up)!

I think ' age and health' may be a factor as to why some people prefer a Coach holiday were everything is included.. rather than the hassle of flying and making their own way around ..

Jouell--People forget the best thing to a long and happy life is contentment not the places you have seen or been to as when your time comes, people forget your past only them that really know you will remember the good times, I've sheared My life for 59 years with my best friend

Quite right bentlegs, old age catches up with us all and a lot faster than you think.. Some fare better than others, but it still makes big changes in your life...

dougie, some people are very materialistic, it's all about how much money, where you live, the type of house, or for some, how many houses.. where you go for your holidays and how many a year.. I agree with you, contentment is everything, I don't need all that other stuff...

Why would you think that LG.. I know quite a few people, all of whom live in their own and very nice homes..
As I said before, the reasons people do Coaching holidays are Age, health, agility and for those who live alone, companionship..
I know people who could easily afford great holidays abroad, but for one or more of the above reasons they can't, so do coach holidays and enjoy them..

Your right jouell money or material things can't buy you contentment , Kath, Micks right, we weren't brought up with a silver spoon in our mouth like some, 9 of us in a two bedroom council house and my mother-in-law had 11 in 2 bedroomed house in Coventry so yes we can rough it with the best but why pay good money to go back to see the same place you've been before

Wish we could do things like that here.. There are no trains, we have to drive 200 miles to get a train. In fact, we have to drive 200 miles to get to the closest halfway decent city...

What was going on at the Palace, looked like a lot of people waiting for something..

You enjoy your trips out Dougie ...x

I was catching a train to London then up to Great Yarmouth every two weeks Dougie from 67 to 70, some times I would change in Crewe and go across county via Rutland and Norwich

Fat Mick unless you book well in advance or are train savvy today it can cost more to go from Wigan to London that it would cost to fly

I have only once travelled from Manchester to London by plane. It was in the 1980's, and even then it was cheaper than the train, which would have been a peak rate journey!

Unfortunately, London airports were fog-bound, and the flight was delayed by FOUR HOURS, which almost caused me to miss my connecting flight. That flight too, had been delayed, but check-in had closed, and another operator checked me in. They literally closed the door behind me and took off. Another two minutes, and I would have missed the flight!

I never want to go to Burnley.
What they do there don't concern me.
Why would anybody make that journey?

This was a mystery tour which called at Wigan in 2016 the lunch part of the mystery tour was at Wigan Market Hall, and I am sure that the tour came from Burnley, it was either Blackburn or Burnley, but I suppose the only way that they would have visited Wigan, was as part of a mystery tour, they wouldn't have come here voluntarily
