Parkway Racecourse, Poolstock
I came across some pictures of the above and was wondering whether anyone could tell me any thing about it. I am intrigued to find out where in Poolstock it was. In the back ground of the pictures i can see St James' Church but cant figure out were it was.

The Dogtrack at Poolstock was on the land behind Chadwick St.(still there). The area is now Baker St.There used to be an area at the front of the dogtrack called The Patch where punters used to park their cars.We used to creep between the cars and let their tyres down by sticking a matchstick in the tyre valve.

Not much, other than The dog track surrounded the speedway track, which was covered in Barrage Baloon material (to keep it free from cinders). After the war. In 1947, when I was a kid (9 years old), I was there when Stan Laurel & Oliver Hardy paid a visit. It didn't last long after that. It's location was where Baker St is now

A friend of mine, Tommy, says he used to walk dogs there when he was a lad.

By 1952 the dirt track racing had gone to Woodhouse Lane Dog track. But by that time the old Wigan speedway team had finished. A few names to remember: Jack Gordon, Jack Hargreaves, Oliver Hart, Dick Geary. Can't recall the others.

I remember watching Oliver, Ronnie and their sister Margaret stock car racing at Woodhouse lane. I think a Mr Kenyon was a bookie at the Parkway dog track.
