Come on people let us have some new threads, Ive tried with a couple but no one seems to want to reply, whats happening has someone or something scared every one away, we need to keep this site alive or else.

Well aitch,here in Oz we have lost three icons,legends,call them what you will,in quick succession.First it was Don Chipp,he founded a third force in Australian politics and coined the phrase "Keep the bastards honest",he was 81.Then Steve Irwin got himself killed doing what he enjoyed doing best and yesterday one Australia's best known car racing personalities lost his life when his car hit a tree,and he was 61.They say things come in threes but that may yet be proved wrong,anyway there has been a lot of outpouring of public grief,though how long it will last is anyone's guess as we are in the middle of football finals fever.

Public grief is a very short measure Roy ,My dear wife was a very well known and well liked and respected lady, a paragon of her church. Helped to run a Sunday school class, a youth club although severly disabled and was always there when ever anything wanted doing even volunteered my help although I would never go to church. Anyway she always used to say no matter what you do for poeple at the end you are only a very short memory, and she has been proved right, people who would phone her at all hours for a chat or advice suddenly stopped ringing, sending Christmas cards and the like, ceased except for a few, and of course my family I must say that you are made to feel like a outcast. With for example Christmas cards we used to send and receive in excess of 160 and receive the same, last Christmas I got just 40+ I think the figures speak for themselves, Still she will never be forgotten by me and mine, and if there is any one out there who knew her You know what I am talking about.

Aitch, i felt really sad when i read your post. Your late wife sounded like a real lovely lady.Some of my older family members have lost there partners of many years and the sadness is overwhelming and the loneliness too.
What your wife said is so true, about, " no matter what you do for people at the end you are only a very short memory". That is such a shame because you don't want people to forget has you know how caring and kind your loved one was. But sadly people do forget.All that matters is that you and yours never will.

What about praising the people (with us or not) that have done some good for yourselves or others. It would be a small tribute to them and lift their spirits as well as our own.

i'll praise my late husband, when he died 10yrs; ago it was said by many people that they had never seen the church so full there was standing room only, he was such a good person, friendly, do anyone a good turn, and so happy with it, i am proud to have been able to share his life with him and the world would be a better place if there were more like him around

Your message is very sad and has made me realise that life is very short and that you should make the most of the time you have with your family. I am lucky in that i have a wonderful Wife and 2 children. That said, my boys are already growing up and are increasingly less reliant on their Dad to keep them company.

I, like you, worked at Springsbranch. I was an apprentice in the early to mid eighties and have some very fond memories of the friends i made during that time. Although i still work on the Railway, there doesn't seem to be the characters around as there were in the past. I decided tonight to see how many names i could remember. To my suprise i listed over 60 names from 25 years ago.

I was on Ince Moss a few months ago and made a point of riding over the main line to have a look at the depot. It was quite sad to be honest to see it in its current state. That in itself made me feel old!
