Have only just seen this thread Aitch but I found something a short while agoand printed it off. What a hoot. For example:

You may not tie an alligator to a fire hydrant (titter)

In a certain part of America a lady may not buy a hat without her husband first trying it on (snicker)

Will put some others on when I get access to it again. There are some absolute corkers but, as they say, ONLY IN AMERICA!

I quite liked the one which said you could be fined $500 for exploding a nuclear device And the one in florida which says if you tie an elephant to a parking meter you will have to pay a parking fee as if it was a car

Yes Aitch. The one about fining you $500 for exploding a nuclear device is only if you explode it within city limits!

Looking on the serious side, while all those laws seem to be somewhat stranger than fiction, we should really examine the mental state of the politicians we elect, politicians who make the laws.

Dave, you could take that a stage further and examine the mental state of some of the people who vote for these politicians. In recent years here in Oz, some jurisdictions have clearing out some of the old English common laws from their statute books as they no longer apply.I recall that a few years ago I read that a British or former British territory near the equator, repealed the law on the slope of the roof, which had it to be 30degrees? so that the snow would slide off.As for the "crazy" laws in the US we must remember that many of the older ones are based on old English common law,not quite sure about the nuclear device or elephants and parking meters. In some states the laws are,in my view,an infringement of personal privacy.

In California a vehicle without a driver may not exceed 60 mph!

In Tennessee you can't shoot any game other than whales from a moving car and it is illegal to use a lasso to catch a fish!

In one state, I can't remember which, a criminal must inform his victim either verbally or in writing of the crime he is to commit within a 24 hour period of actually committing the crime.

Er ..... right!

i onced heard of a couple of our laws that are still in use,
Its illegal to walk across Londen bridge with one sheep...more than one is ok!

Its still legal to pee againts the back wheel of a taxi....this one originated when cabs were horse drawn and the driver had no where else to go, and taxi's have obviously moved on but the law hasn't!

i wouldnt risk trying it though you probably get done for indecent exposure lol
