Black swans in Wigan !

Started by: likmik (1)

just been over the flashes near hawkley hall with 2 of my kids and a pair of binoculars and come across an unusual sighting of 2 black swans,
when i first saw them on the water i did not have a clue what they were but we came across 2 real twitchers watching them and i found myself asking them what the 2 birds where and they said that they where black swans,
just been searching the net to find out more about them and it appears that these birds are normally found in australia and new zealand,
has anybody heard about or seen black swans in the wigan area before?
just thought that if there are any birdwatching people out there that they may be intrested to go down to the flashes to take a look,
the swans are currently on the flash to the right of westwood flash but i am not sure what it is called.

Years ago I used to go fishing on the canal at Red Rock opposite the Crawford arms pub. There is a lane called Arley lane which leads to the golf club and the canal at Arley Hall, now this hall was surrounded by a moat and if my memory serves me right there were black swans permanently resident there,
