Morris Dancing

Started by: spring viewer (220)

Does anyone know of any Morris Dancing troupes who would be interested in holding a competition next summer on Spring View Community Sport Complex site, off Hatfield Close, Spring View (approx 8 acres of enclosed land with changing/toilet/kitchen/bar facilities). I used to watch these competitions as a child and was amazed at their displays and stamina, but unfortunately we don't appear to hear of them any more .

Hopefully someone out there will be able to help as if we could hold a competition this would make a fantastic day.

Back in the 50s, I can remember one chap that trained a troupe of Morris dancers, often he'd bring a radiogram from his house, place it near his front gate, and start it playing some record. The dancers were actually learning/training on a public highway, but, that being the 50s, there wasn't anywhere near as much traffic as there is now.
