What I like About the English

Over the last couple of centuries the British have been occupying Countries all over the Globe,mostly Asian and African.Now we have this outcry from the English about these Illegal Immigrants who go to England for refuge.It,s all right for the English to occupy these Countries,but do,nt come to our Country.I would call this double standards,am I right.

I don't mind who comes here as long they accept our customs without expecting us to change to suit theirs.I'd also expect them to work and not expect a free living. I'd also expect them to respect our heritage , our faith, our history. No one is saying Britain was right to go invade and conquer, but that was in the past.Britain itself has been invaded has it not? Yet I don't go viking hunting.
When I lived in Germany I did my best to use their language, eat their foods and it was fantastic and interesting.I didn't care that they fought against us years ago in wars, cos thats the past and its done and dusted.
Folk who come to uk should adapt to us, or bugger off somewhere else.No one is forcing them to stay.

It would be simpler to give back all the land that was fought over and colonised to the inhabitants who are and have been there for many, many years. Let them run their own affairs and Bob's your uncle.
It won't happen though will it?

the english left a worthwhile legacy in these conquered lands.they introduced education for the masses
the built a democratic system, that had never been there before.
hydro electric plants
dams
railways
the list is endless. thats the difference keno, they came, and when they left, they left something worth while behind.even the country you decided to live in, you owe thanks to the terrible english for colonising it.

Don't be wound up by Keno, his ancestors still live in Abram were he comes from orginally. He's very good at winding people up, and come to think of it with all the postings he keeps putting on Wigan World, he must be missing the Old Country a lot, although he probably wouldn't admit it.

I totally agree with billy alot of those places would have been wiped off the map if it hadn't been for the english giving their knowledge and assistance.

Your right Ackky,you can read me like a book.The other night I was having a beer In a little club In Coffs Harbour with
Sydneylass the Sister of Ozzielass,we where talking about how we miss the Club life of Wigan,we where almost In tears.
I,ve been here 57 years but I,ts hard to get Wigan out of ones blood.I some times find It hard to sleep of a night thinking of my beloved Wigan.

Here we go again,trotting out that sentimental diatribe,it's Keno's fault,vying for the president of the Stirrers Club. Even in his seemingly contrite posting he is extracting the urine .All we ex-pats have a soft spot for our place of origin,but when we contribute on this site it's not because we are homesick,yearning for our birthplace,it's that we like to keep in touch with folks who have shared memories.
Now when you talk of the legacy of the English in Africa,Asia and even Australia I think you mean British.This how I view it:the English were the navigators and supervisors,the Scots were the engineers,the Irish provided the labour and the Welsh made up the numbers,waxing lyrical about home.

Hi Aussie Roy how true you are,apparently when we have a legitimate veiw,we are stirring,when I posted my opinion I did It at the same time as Gary and had not read Gary,s posting at the time,It was just a coincident that they both appeared on the web at the same time.It his becoming very hard at present to make a statement on Wigan World without someone saying I have an ulterior motive.It will not stop me having my own veiw,we all cannot have views that are the same as each other.
The more some people speak seems to give me the Impression of an Inferiority
complex,I may be wrong.
I don,t make many postings on Wigan World
when I do they seem to raise the hackles of some people.His Is because I,m an ex pat.If I wanted to stir somone I would I can be good at It ,If I try.

Good evening Billy,trust you had a nice day.It's actually been a quiet day for me and mine,that was until the arrival of my youngest grandchild.They say no rest for the wicked but even those of us who are virtueous suffer.

Empress do,nt knock the Dover locks.I spent many a pleasant hour In the Dover Locks Hotel.It was back In 1959 on a visit to Abram ,I was having an Illicit love affair,and I treasured every hour of It like It was yesterday.Ho they where lovely memories.I could go on and on but I wo,nt bore you with the details.Seeya later.

Have a look on the Album in Assorted,and scrool down to Wigan Sea Cadets near the bottom of the page ,and have a look at those young sea cadets in the photo's, isn't one of them your brother Kevin.I know one of them is Daly, but I can't remember his first name, only he had an older brother named Mick, who was a really big lad.See if you know any of them I think they were all from Abram.

Ackky I,m not really sure It could be the 3rd one along that his Kevin.I join the Merchant Navy In 1946,so I did,nt see much of him growing up.Kevin was 6 years old In 1946,I worked on the Australian coast on a ship from 1947,I returned to U K Xmas 1949,did a few more trips around ,then eventually settled here early 50s.I know the name Daly but would,nt know how he would look either.Thanks anyway for this Information.I can only remember what Kevin looked like when I spent time In Abram In 1959,Thanks Again.

I read a lot of comments about the people
who go to England as residents Illegal or
any other way,that what annoys people over there his that these people do,nt adopt English ways,which they should.
A lot of us expats who leave the Old Dart for Ausse ,get critised for adopting Aussie ways, whats right.

Keno, When you used to go in the Dover in 1959 was Big Albert's Mother Maud the Landlady?

Broady I think so ,I was undercover always trying to be hidden from other people,It was mostly In the day time when I was there ,I loved every moment of It.It was my happiest time In Abram.I still look at Dover Locks on the Internet.

Thanks for having a look at the Album photo, but just to day I met a bloke who told me what Mick Daly's younger brothers name was, which is Chris.The guy I met to-day was brought up in Abram, and he knows most of the families around and about in those days in Abram, including your Kevin. He's waiting till his daughter calls at his house to go on line to look at the sea cadet photo's, no doubt he will know all of them in the photo's.
