Military woman with children

Started by: elizabeth (5439)

I do not see how a woman with a child go to active service , how can she put that before looking after her child , I understand Husband is also in the Services so WHO looks after the child ?? If they want to behave like a man then do not have children. Im any case I do not approve of woman in the front line.I served in the Womans Timber corp during the 2nd WW, so dont think I am a mamby pamby ,I chopped Large trees down with a 14lbs axe and a 7 lb axe 6ft cross cut saw and a machette ( cannot remeber the proper word) for cutting limbs off, worked in the saw mills and every thing that entails ,Shire horses and chains to pull the trees out of the woods ,load on to a Wagon drive the 50ft WAGON TO Welwyn Garden station weigh and then load by hand on to wagons and only 8st 4 wringing wet and 5ft 9 inches and then went to the Highlands of Scotland to do same again. What do others think ?? should they go in the fighting line

I'm not an advocate of women in the frontline I must agree. The Israelis tried it in one of the Arab wars, but the enemy soon learned that to take 3 people out of the battle all they had to do was shoot a woman

However, In todays equality world, why shouldnt they? Didnt women work in the SOE just as good, if not better than the males ???

Women do have a role within the armed forces, but my honest opinion is that if they start a family they need to rethink their careers. They take the queens shilling, want equality and have got equal rights and pay, so therefore they should have to serve the same as the men. However, I don't agree with them starting a family whilst serving.
To be honest I'd be dangerous with a gun in my hand and PMT anyway. Admin, nursing etc, wimmins work, guns, tanks, frontline...........man jobs.

Emp, that sounds so sexist. If a man starts a family he can go to war, if a woman starts a family she cant !! Are you saying a man doesnt have to be around for his kids?

Nope suit, but most men don't moan when they do get sent away, I heard plenty female soldiers goin berserk though. It aint sexist its my honest opinion, women and men have different qualities and strengths, they can't be equal in everything it aint natures way.........unless of course you are a female russian shot putter, they can have all the equality they like......I aint arguing with them.

Disagree, all the female soldiers I met were very professional, none went 'beserk'. I know of high flying managers (female) getting called up from the TA, RNVR etc, who just packed their bags and got on with it. You must know a motley crew !

What about when women are taken as POW's?? There is a big difference then. The punishment that can be meted out to a woman is different to a man. One woman, a dozen men, doesn't bear thinking about.

of all the desk jobs and similar occupations in the services, taken up by men, surely a woman could do this job as good, if not better than men???thereby releasing the men for active duty.i do not believe women should be anywhere near the firing lines, at any time.i say this without any ref to being chauvinistic or any other b******t titles.we need our brave lasses back in blighty one day Smilies:

the lord in his wisdom made horses for courses, did he not???in the good old days of "yin&yang, each had a slot, and each filled that slot, hence the world ran on an even keel.but since the reformers took over, the whole system is holed below the waterline.
