not long ago this would have been a declaration of war against the uk !!!i still feel that this is only part of the "BIG PICTURE"retaliation, and iran would get the sympathies of other muslim countries.a middle east flare up and all the oil cut off to the west(the west got it outa the ground for them) i dont know why we are delaying the obvious outcome to all this b******t.

<quote>Why didn`t HMS Cornwall intervene and arrest the Iranian seamen ? </quote>

The 14 men & 1 woman were in launches, intercepting a cargo vessel,(a normal procedure in the gulf) suspected of carrying stolen vehicles to Iraq.
It was whilst they were aboard the ship, that the Iranian navy arrested them.
What could the Cornwall do? There are two armed ships, one British the other Iranian with British personnel on board.
The Cornwall couldn't attack the Iranian ship & put members of it's own crew in jeopardy. Better to play along diplomatically. ie, No bloodshed. It's been done before

how can you be diplomatic with an Iranian
They are already under sanctions and cocking their up noses at us

but tell me How the blinkin eck could they " Sneak" up on our lads at sea they should have been warned by HSM cornwall of approaching Iranian boats
to be prepared to defend themselve or hightail it out of there .

The nation want Answers Mr Blair

They've done exactly the same before, & "our lads" were released without harm, after diplomatic pressure.
What would you have them do, go in all guns blazing, then come out many relatives mourning. If it was a borderline incident, the Iranian ship had just the same rights to be in that area as us. So any long range action would have been just as harmful to our lads as the Iranians....Bearing in mind, the Iranians were closest to the cargo vessel

In a hostage situation JJ!

Could I ask: What would you do?

Any action, could do more damage to the captives, than the perpetrators.
The man on the spot is a journalist for the BBC, inserted aboard the ship, getting any knowledge (allowed) first hand.
The newspaper report is anything picked up coming from the BBC man....then enhanced (journalistic licence)

I agree with you to a certain extent, but we haven't a clue what's going on. Something must be done, but not by me & thee. Give the ones in the know a chance. Like I've said before, it happened in 2004, the captives came out unscathed, said they had been looked after OK. A few scares maybe, but nothing physically harmful. Let's just hope they come home safe & sound...My grandson has just returned from Afghanistan,Helmand Province, safe. That's not a pleasant place to be either. Answer to "Art"

Under normal situations where any person mistakenly strayed into anothers teritorial water I would be Diplomatic,

However countries like Iran ,Syria ,and other known Despot countries, I would not tolerate such actions ,
I would demand physical British involvment and our knowledge of the holding area without comprimise
If I didn,t get this assurance then I would be prepared to fight for my countries Representatives .

Also to SUIT
I have the following to say,
If you involve me in your replies to forum It would be a good idea to Ask me had I been Involved in conflct before you assumed ,and My contribution has never been "Money" Who cares about money

What a subject to get the hackles raised!!! What suprises me is that we're all so ready to give our opinions on what we would have done. We have no idea what we'd have done/should have done, because we weren't in that situation!! Just like the crew didn't suspect they'd be faced with that situation either.

JJ, from reading your comments, you come across as very biased on your opinions. The information you receive from the news is somewhat distorted because us mere public viewers are not allowed to know the full details. Don't you ever question the fact that our country, it's government and it's military can make mistakes too but you're not allowed to know? I can't believe that you 'generalize' on all Iranians being the bad guy! That's basically saying that whatever bad thing happens in the UK, we're all the same right?? Also, remind yourself that whatever information has been fed to us via the media, at least we're given a little of 'both sides' to the story and we believe it - right? Well, people such as Iranians are fed information that is one sided that basically condemns us via their media - why shouldn't they believe that too? This situation needs to be rationalized and I'm sure, just like before, it will be, and our people will be sent back home. Let's not keep focusing on the negatives, and the has beens.

"Just like the crew didn't suspect they'd be faced with that situation either."

All I can say to that is They should have been trained to expect attack , even MPs are asking why do we have an a sleeping "escort" including a helicopter, as my earlier message said

You also say
" JJ, from reading your comments, you come across as very biased on your opinions"

Of course Im Biased the hostages are my countrymen, but Im not an Idiot/Simpleton as you suggest neither do I wear a cap and gown,
nor am I stupid enough to think all Iranians are of the same the mind set In (private) that they have to show in public.

KB don't tell me what I can and can't do.Who died and made you queen?
I see you been having a look at my profile, if I want pics of my kids on there I will, I been using the net years, i keep my kids safe in the real world darlin. You lot have a little bicker then seem to bring my name into it fast...........why is this ? Do I intimidate you in some way?
If you actually read all of what is written in here instead of taking itsy bitsy pieces of what someone says then ripping it to pieces it might be a peaceful place.
You all tend to make any remark into a racist one, you are bigger racists yourselves for jumping in feet first at the the least little thing. You rip into Billy for being a sailor calling him a liar, at least if I pass him in the street I will know him, he dosn't hide away like a coward.
As for my name, lets straighten this one up , one last time, it obviously bothers some of you fools, Empress was a name created on msn for me 5 years ago, I use it on all forums, am usually known as emps not empress, cos I shorten it.That way any of my online pals knows who they are talking to, I don't hide behind dozens of chat names. I have nothing to hide.
Billy I will add here, I don't see any of what you say as racist, my family and friends are made up of many races, creeds and colours( does that shock some of you?)
You tend to state what many brits (OF ALL CREEDS AND COLOURS) are thinking .
A few in here have jumped on my forum name and make snide comments lately, if it bothers you so much go create something a bit more inventive for yaselves. Now sod off your boring me with ya whinging and moaning and misery.

you have summed up what the majority in wigan world feel empress.you make a response to the daily news-paper/tv and bingo, if ya aint racist, then the paper you read is hung around your neck???a couple of non-de-plumes in here i can understand the low mentality of them, every site has them, but one poster(another non de plume)should know better. some of his posts show an intellect way above the other misscriants, yet he falls into the trap they lay??i propose we ignore them from this point on, and that way leave them adrift on the high seas of bilge.
good post empress, and well worth reading.power to your elbow mate.

I'll post yer house number street name & postcode if you want, wee willy. I wouldn't. But it's no prob. With your permission of course
As for contributions, show me one post of yours, with any help to others mentioned.
I don't scrabble thro' the papers finding racial comment, to pronounce on!!
As for Kids pics Emp.
These boards were shut down once, because one or two idiots made threats against a member & in a menacing manner said " & I know which school your kids go to as well"
That's why original members don't usually give many details, since the boards were reopened. Posting kids pics, is a no-no on the web, for obvious reasons, you have yours sothat's OK with me....I wouldn't
These boards have been going, (with a short break, due to reasons mentioned) since 2002.How did we manage without you & willy. It was a community then

Not getting at you billy. This so reminds me of bullying. I mean what is their problem with billy. He should not have to justify his past history or credentials.
And whats all this about, "i will post yer house number, street name and postcode if you want, wee willy".Thats offensive, how old are you? just grow up.

Has for posting pics in profiles. Well all i can say is each to their own.If emps was to say,be in todays evening post with her family and the paper was covering a story, say for example, she had raised money for her local school, well isnt it not just as easy to glean info from the local paper about someone.
Theres lots of stories every day in the paper, magazines, tv, etc about all sorts of different people, names, where you live, etc. And to me that can be just as easy to find info about someone.
If a member wants to put photos or info in their profile then thats up to them.

The suit, he probably deserted 'cos he was a merchantman and merchantmen can do as they please once they've served their time aboard. They 'jump' ship just as easily as you'd go for another job, 'cos it's just a job. Billy did say he saved us from the Nazis, which would make him in his early 80s at least, like my Dad, who was in the RN on the Western Approaches. Where were you Billy?

BTW INTIMIDATE ME!!! not a bloody chance. In the words of a winner - calm down dear.
Back to the thread; my son is in the army, they are trained to the hilt for situations like these, they choose what they do for a living and we should either respect that or go and join them, not sit in our armchairs like the willies calling people pratts and latrines etc.
