Money's Worth.

Just realised I am certainly getting my money's worth from my TV licence fee... Our Lad flit a couple of weeks ago taking his monster 60" TV with him. Her indoors decided to refurb his attic room... total stripout etc... Thats all been done so she got another TV to replace the one he took!!
So... theres a tv in the summerhouse... a tv in the kitchen diner... a tv in the livingroom... a tv in theback bedroom.. a tv in my bedroom... and a new tv in the attic room..... theres only. me and her indoors !! six tv's... I said.... do we need another one.... her indoors said... yes.. and thats it.... I will always have a spare wont I

Cheap enough nowadays. I have three, just for one viewer, though comes in handy for guests. (Also have three 'boxes'/recorders which can display TV on my Hi Res computer monitors.)

Still remember them being costly, and many choosing to rent rather than buy their sets.

Consumer electronics has been ever so successful at reducing costs of their products, has it not.

Defence Electronics, (area in which I once worked): just the opposite. Need to be state of the art, and to better the opposition resulting in eye-watering costs!

Many people can't afford the electricity to run one televsion

I get my moneys worth. I haven't paid the BBC tax for the last 4 years. One of the best things i've ever done. For folk struggling to pay bills, be instantly £160 a year better off and let Gary Lineker do an honest day's graft down at Mcdonalds.

I recall, sometime, (circa the millennium) TV manufacturers observing that people were renewing their computers around every three years, and musing whether they could get people to repurchase TV sets at a similar frequency.

I think they are getting there.

I agree with you Pewfall... but her indoors being a law abiding citizen wont unsubscribe till its not a criminal offence. Not saying you or any others are by not subscribing.

Most Tv's have auto tune but also have a manual tune. You can then tune all the channels you need except any to do with the BBC One idiot in paper today saying the £3.5 BILLION is not enough for the BBCWe have Freeview Tv with over 100 channels then Rakuten Pluto ITV Hub More4 and My5 all free to view. There are not that many programmes on any of the BBC channels that we wish to watch but like sheep we still pay for a licence. A spokesperson For the BBC came up with the idea that if the licence was done away with then the channel would be by subscription. They would LOOSE a lot of money and why can they not pay for the channel by using adverts like all the other channels do

GB operating a tv has nothing to do with needing a tv license. One only needs a license for watching ANY live tv as it is being broadcast and also recording it live. Law recently changed to include all BBC catchup services on I-Player. My wife watches only netflix and watches non BBC e.g. itv news at 10, breakfast tv using internet catchup on our modern tv. The catchup is a far better picture than uhf airwaves too. If the license goons knock at my door it won't even get opened. All totally legal. I do listen to bbc radio 4. That's legal too as radio license was scrapped in 1971.

Do they still broadcast on UHF?

BB: If you only have 1 TV in the caravan, who gets prority choice to watch?

Only have one TV. Had one in the bedroom in the distant past but never, ever used it. I usually read in bed, far more relaxing. I watch little tv anyway.

Time it was scrapped and as the BBC is in many ways a media organ of the Government, the cost of running the service should be borne by the Government.

Especially, when so many now have no license!

Would she watch the BBC if there was no licence fee to pay?

The government doesn't have any money, it collects from the people by way of tax.
People should have the choice whether they want to contribute.
