Maurice Lindsay

Maurice Lindsay, the former chairman of the Wigan Warriors, has died he was 81 years old.

One of the original gang of four directors who was at the helm during the 1980's glory days. He drifted off to football landing up at Preston North End directorship. Safe passage Mr Lindsay.

A person who was always willing to listen to what ordinary supporters had to say as I found out when I spoke to him on a number of occasions in the players bar of Central Park.

I was at the same school as Maurice. He was a talented boxer at school and I think his love of rugby league started as he was a schoolmate of Frank Kirk who eventually played for Leigh and came from a rugby loving family from Pemberton St Cuthberts.
A man of many talents, a croupier at the Paradise club, racecourse and dog track bookie and a successful businessman in other ways.
Gone but not forgotten RIP Maurice.

Great interview, he saw the problems with Central Park.
A very talented man and I remember doing some work in the Central Park office and he seemed to be having about three conversations and one on the phone and knew what was talking about in every one.

It is good people still remember the Central Park heroes and the backing people that made them Sad news for a good mans passing

Perhaps the powers that be on Wigan Council will now honour and thank him for the attention and fame he brought to the town in the time he was the Chairman of Wigan RLFC between 1979 and the time he left to become Chief Executive of the Rugby Football League.

it makes you wonder where we would have been, in the 80s, without Maurice. R.I.P.
