Salad Days
I do like a salad when weather is warm.
After a good start, this spring once again turned cold, so today is my first salad day of the season. (OK, yesterday was warm, but I had not shopped any salad stuff)
Not yet decided between egg salad, or the classic OAP tinned salmon salad. Quite like the latter, but as I have salmon in stock for three meals between now and the 19th, maybe go for the egg to vary my diet.
I have never been very adventurous with salads: settle for lettuce, toms, spr onion and q's.
What do you put in a salad?
Rescue my dismal repertoire, give me some good ideas, please.

Just by coincidence we are having our first salad of the year today. It will contain watermelon, spring onions, fresh mint, Italian parsley, and jalapenos. The dressing will have olive oil and white wine vinegar.
PS I don't know anything about salads it was just a recipe someone gave us last year. Very refreshing.

Nor radish, cucumber or boiled egg for me. Caesar salad was our second choice.

I rarely eat salads but on the odd occasion that I do, I’ll have a bit of Baby Gem lettuce, sliced tomatoes, some grated cheese, raw chopped onion, cucumber, sweet corn, some sliced mixed peppers and, either, boiled ham, red salmon, or prawns.
I never eat before 6 p.m. so I’m famished by then and I have, what I call, a proper evening meal with meat and veg, or something else cooked from scratch, so I only ever have a salad for supper, and never as a main meal.

Thinly sliced Fennal grapes orange and feta cheese make a good addition to usual l t and spring onion

My former other half use to make Greek Salad, usual stuff, sans lettuce, instead olives and cubed Feta Cheese, and ingredients chopped rather than sliced as would be in an English Salad.
Feta is last added, and since yours truly always tasked with dicing the cheese, my comment as I tipped in the cheese was always "Feta-complished".

A lettuce mix.
Small plumb tomatoes.
Peeled and cubed cucumber.
Finely sliced red onion, or spring onion.
Cubes of Feta cheese or mature cheddar.
Chopped pickled beetroot.
A mix of roasted seeds.
A fillet of fresh salmon, a couple of slices of home cooked gammon ham, or anything else that I fancy, on the side.
Forgot to add, a home made dressing of white wine vinegar, grain mustard and extra virgin olive oil, or a shop bought Caesar salad dressing.

Once upon a time, I used to chop my own Coleslaw.
Trouble is, even using just one item of each of ingredients, ie one cabbage, one onion, one Bramley, etc.... end up with a greater quantity than is required for just one person.
So, although nice, I would end up discarding remaining quantity when 3 to 5 days shelf life exceeded.
I am sure I can recall in times past, retailers selling half, and even quarter white cabbages. I never find any nowadays though.

Some tasty recipes to dress my salad but I don't enjoy unless I have a jacket potato or a jersey royal with it

My mum once burned a salad, she had put a salad out on a big oval plate, and she put it under the grill, and this was back in the day when most cookers had eye level grills, you don't see them much these days, but you can actually still buy one, so she put the salad under the grill, just to put it somewhere whilst she did something else, but out of habit, as she put it under the grill, she turned the grill on

Had a laugh at that TTS. Never known anyone to burn a salad
