BLACK SPOT ALGAE

Started by: Anne (4386)

Anyone had this problem on pavings/patio. I have tried all kinds of so called miracle ideas but nothing has made the slightest difference.
If you are not sure what I am meaning it is the appearance multiple black spots on any type of paving.
Don’t suggest bleach, useless, as are a number of proprietary solutions.

Have you tried heat?

One of those hot air guns used for paint stripping, or butane weed-burning device. (they also come in electric versions)

Should kill the algae, though you will still need to clean away the remnant/stain.

The thickening agent in bleach probably causes immediate reinfestation.

Jeyes Fluid used to work.

Ena…..once again a good suggestion, the chap who cuts my grass may have a weed burning gun, it’s amazing the garden type equipment he has. The paint burning gun is a no, no, far too big an area.
Just come in from jet washing the pavings. I look like a spotted bun.

Anne, I tried all the above, the only thing that worked was Sodium Hypochlorite, you can buy it off Ebay, read about it first.
