"Erection of an employment building with ancillary office use, together with storage locations, holding bay, jet wash, car parking and associated landscaping and infrastructure at Former Morrisons Supermarket, Makerfield Way, Ince, Wigan. Approved with Conditions."

Morrison’s going was a big loss to Ince and I think the building’s demolition rather than being repurposed just added insult to injury, but at least the land will be used productively again.

All went downhill at Ince Morrisons when Tesco took over the Co-operative Store in Hindley and it became sandwiched between the that store and the one at Wigan.

I am puzzled

In the plans it mentions a 'jet wash' and a promise for the jet wash not to be used between 8.00pm and 8.00am

So what's all that about ?

Could it be some skulduggery by the council, to build a purpose built facility for the bin wagons, instead of them being housed in the main council depot on Makerfield Way ?

Please excuse my ignorance but can you be more explicit has to what the building is to be used for ? and who will be allowed to use the jetwash? My proposal for better use would be to erect council house's on the site . Especially why we have such a shortage . GB

The change of use codes, indicate a change of use to light industrial and offices, so why they want a jet wash is beyond me, and a noisy jet wash too, if you go into the main council depot, you can see that the bin wagons take up a very large chunk of it.

This is from the Manchester Evening News.

"It said that the economic benefits that arise from the development are:

The provision of a number of up to 100 FTE jobs available through the operational phase

Up to 80 FTE construction jobs will be created
The development has a £6,000,000 construction value
Support for a number of other off-site employment opportunities in the building trade ranging from suppliers of building materials to architects

An increase in expenditure in the local economy through construction and operational workers helping to support the economy in Wigan

Provide a catalyst for smaller employment sites on the Council’s allocation to the north to come forward as it will provide confidence in the market
