No wonder the local MOH is concern about the level of obesity in Wigan if people are having lunches in addition to Breakfast and Evening Meal.

As you get older and less active, you should be eating less!

According to what the Nurse at our surgery told me, ruffage like cereal at Breakfast and a smaller meal in the Evening is better for you if you are elderly!

I remember being forced to drink full fat cream every day at school on medical advice. Now it is taboo. Have I grounds to sue the Lancs Education Committee? A little bit of what you fancy is best for you.

Broady: how did they force you, were you held down? I remember a ginger haired boy in my primary class being tied to a chair once by the teacher, can't remember what for now.
As far as cream goes, a mate of mine is on some diet prescribed by his surgery and that includes an amount of full fat cream each week. Apparently, the brain needs fat.

6 days eh broady? What's the route?

Here to Gatwick. Overnight stay in Gatwick. Gatwick to Toronto. Toronto to Calgary. At least we clear customs in Toronto.

I eat neither breakfast nor lunch, but I do have a good evening meal cooked from scratch, then a supper at around 9 p.m.

How many do not cook and live on takeaways now?

Quite a lot judging by the number of takeaways and the daily queue of cars at McDonalds drive in outlets all over the country.

The only time some see normal food is if they visit a Weatherspoons!

I do a lot of batch cooking, then portion it out to freeze. Example, cook up to twelve, fifteen lamb chops in a large casserole dish. When needed defrost and grill for a few minutes. Excellent.

Sunday lunch, yesterday, was served at my house.
Not a traditional one though. I cooked Stew and dumplings plus veg and spuds, to the traditionalists amongst my family members. For the rest, I cooked a Thai red, chicken curry with rice and Naan bread. I made an apple pie, served with vanilla ice cream or custard, yet again for the traditionalists and for the rest a chocolate and salted caramel cake. All cooked by these fair but elderly hands. Followed by After Eight mints and brandy, to those who were disposed to partake Wine and beers were on tap too, brought by my family members, plus chocolates for myself.
The male members watched the footy, while the females did what we do best, chatted and laughed, much to our delight and to the annoyance of the men. And a very good time was had by all.
Today, I will be chillin' and scoffing my hard earned chocolates

I ration my chox to Christmas and Easter, so I have started my countdown.

Already have in stock Lübeck Marzipan, as can only get it online nowadays.

Saturday, shall buy some Madagascar vanilla white chocolate from Aldi. Tis very tasty, but high salt, sugar and sat fat.

It would be a problem, but I recon I can get away with just twice a year.

jathbee: the thread has disappeared, not surprised, but I was wondering were there nuns at St Cuthbert's (that's where you went isn't it) and is that a primary or secondary/grammar school?
Do you live near Wrenbury Close?

Replied: 11th Apr 2022 at 16:45

To answer your questions, Platty.
St.Cuthberts was a primary school, no nuns taught there but some of the teachers were pretty handy with their canes, mostly for very minor misdemeanors.
My secondary school was St.Thomas More. The head mistress was a nun and there were several other nuns who taught there too. Only two of the teachers had a cane, one was the headmistress and the other was deputy head, Miss Horracks..
In all my years there, there were very few pupils who were caned at all.
I always found the head mistress, sister Rose, to be a strict but fair head teacher.

I didn't live near Wrenbury Close. In fact I have no idea where that is. I hope this answers your questions

Those of you eating three or four meals a day:
That's 3 (or4) sittings to eat
3 (or4) meal prep times
3 (or4) washing up

Do you get time for anything else?

I have a couple of slices of toast for breakfast (occasionally but rarely may have kipper or egg or fried brekky)

Then, normally do not eat again until evening.
(Though if I am doing heavy physical work, and need to replace the calories, may have a bought sandwich during the day: a very rare occurrence.)

Evening meal: I guess 90% of my intake of flesh protein is fish, though I do eat chicken, and even less frequently, red meat.

About once or twice a month, have a fillet steak.

AND TONIGHT'S THE NIGHT
Steak
onions
boiled potatoes
green beans
broccoli
asparagus
glass of Chianti

Have to get my five a day all into one meal. OK, only four in the above, but will also have a piece of fruit.

Let's Cook!

Breakfast is recommended as it kick starts your metabolism into fat burning, or so I have read. My breakfast is almost always, a small amount of porridge and about 40grams of blueberries. Lunch is usually home made veg soup followed by a small banana or a few grapes with a little fat free Greek yogurt, that's if I'm home for lunch. Soup made in batches and frozen.
If I have eaten out for lunch, tea will be the veg soup.
I don't mind cooking at all, nor washing up for that matter. Any one of my meals will include one or more of my five a day.
Important for older people to have nourishing meals, or so my doc says.
