Just a thought

Been watching these “Escape to the Country” programmes on BBC
The people buying seem a little off the planet I live on…is it an English class thing…or North versus South…we are down sizing with a budget of £1.2million….does the average family in the North West of England struggling with every day life watch this and think something is wrong…by the way I turned over by mistake and couldn’t believe what was going on…I honestly think I don’t like this country anymore with the class conceous people we have

We are what we are Roy, We can't pick which level we are born at, I'm happy with my working class badge, I've got all I need and what I have't got, I don't need, If I'm getting a pint and a butty, I'm a happy chap, I bet those people in £1.2 million homes Wish they were me,

I've watched the odd one and some of the couples with a couple of million can't be more that in their twenties..what sort of salary are they on..I sometimes wonder who's telling the truth.

We don't all start off from the same line, If you come from , well to do stock, you will get better educated and from that better opportunities, The higher up you are, there is a greater fall if it goes egg shaped, The happiest man i ever met was Kevin, The homeless man, he lived in Westwood woods for 13 years in a tent and i never heard him moan it about once,
So money does not equal happy,

roy, I say exactly the same.. They never have people on who have £180,000 to spend on a house. I saw one couple last week who had around £750,000 to spend They were shown some absolutely fantastic houses but they said there wasn't enough room for the dog to run around!!! Dog could be dead in a couple of years.. I'm convinced that some of the people on the programme have no intention of buying a house.

Lots of folk in those homes don’t see their seventies. I know which I prefer. Once I close my eyes I could be anywhere. Obviously we all strive to do well in life. Tom has a lifestyle lots would die for.

With all that’s happening on the news it shouldn’t be shown…and those presenters are so BBC salaried

when I bought my house in 70 cost 6000 had extension 5999 now worth over one hundred thousand sane house why the world has gone mad and money is worthless.I would rather be back in seventies when our honeymoon to Spain was full meals for ten days and it cost 38 pounds

How many of those who take part in the programmes buy any of the houses and are more interested in just going on a tv company "freebie"

From what I have seen, it is a more up to date version of when people went round on a weekend, knocking on the doors of people selling their properties with no intention of buying which resulted in now having to make an appointment and view a property with a Estate Agent.

Some today are just hard faced!

Been thinking the same for a while roylew.... A lot of plastic 10 Bob snobs seeking their 15 mins of fame.... I would rather watch a struggling couple trying to buy a 90.000 home. More realistic.

i agree billinge bker. I don't watch this programme but I like location Location. I find the more money people have the fussier they are. they can be shown beautiful houses but nit pick about trivial things. Someof these couples can't be over 30 yey looking at £1m houses. where do they get the money from? then you see retired couple searching for a 4 bedroom house. Why?

Four bedroom house for retired couple? Just because a room is labelled “bedroom” does not mean it has to be used as a bed room, there are many other uses they can be put to.
Example, it has been known to be for a cannabis farm. Even a model railway layout.

Anne,

Might even be a bedroom as many may have to return to live at their parents if things keep going worse in peoples budgets!

I don't consider myself to belong to any class, in fact I know people who would say that I had no class at all

So you consider yourself to be working class ?

So by making that statement, you are a being a snob, an inverted snob, with a possible sneering hatred and contempt for people who you believe to be of an 'higher' class than you, but that would be taking inverted snobbery to an extreme degree, but some folk are like that.

If someone you grew up with, and who came from the same background as you, in terms of family income, property type etc, if that person succeeds in education, and puts themselves through college, by working at the same time as going to college, and becomes qualified, and becomes a highly paid professional, and can afford to buy an expensive house, then why do you dislike that person ?

You are you, and you don't need to label yourself.
