Embassy of Cymru
Hi all! I moved to Wigan from Wales fairly recently and jokingly referred to my flat as the Embassy of Cymru to the People's Republic of Wigan. Since then I have had an idea of how to make the Embassy of Cymru name into an asset for the people of both Wigan and Cymru. The plans are exciting, ambitious and will include lots of red tape but I'm determined that the plans I have will become reality soon.
I have set up a Facebook page (Facebook.com/Llysgenhadaeth) and Twitter account (@Llysgenhadaeth) and until such time that I can confirm what the plans are I will use both to help celebrate all that Cymru has brought to Wigan (and vice versa) in as entertaining a way as possible.
If you have any interest in either Wigan or Cymru I hope the content will be engaging so please give the page a like or a follow. Please tell other such people about it. Hopefully there will be plenty of folk on here that can get involved and provide ideas.
Diolch!
Griff

When I lived in London, in a shared house full of Wiganers,
the post man referred to it as 'Little Wigan'.
The postal franking of mail originating from Wigan carried a promotional message: "Modern Wigan has no Peer", which he found very amusing. Of course, we were receiving a fair amount of letters bearing that message.
We were not necessarily hailing from tonker's Wigan. What we all had in common was Wigan Tech in the background. Six or Seven years on, and none had remained in London, and around half had returned to the place from whence they came.
Wigan, once possessed a place called Little London.
Our Little Wigan, in London was transitory, but I always wondered, had we put down roots, others may have joined. Like 'little Venice' or 'Petty France' it could have become a recognized place name.

Hi Billinge Biker!
I'm from Deeside in north Wales. I'm very happy to have moved here and wish I'd done it years ago.
I live in the flats near Wigan Pier so central to everything. Great town!

Hi Ena! They sound like good times!
Did you know there used to be a part of Ashton-in-Makerfield called Little Wales? The population established churches and chapels. They even held their own annual Eisteddfod!

Greetings to you, and welcome to WW.
Yes, my granny lived in Bryn, and her sister at Stubshaw Cross. Her name was Grace Jones, and they hailed from a sheep farm near Bethesda.
She used to talk about wolves attacking the sheep!
I am sure she must have meant foxes though. Even though she was born in the Nineteenth Century, I don't think she was old enough to have encounter wolves in the wild. Of course, I could be wrong.

Hope you like it Griff... But alas Wigan is in transformation at the moment.... But we will all have to wait and see what the end product produces.

Hi Anne Marie,
I've been coming to Wigan to watch rugby games for about 25 years so have noticed a bit of change in the town even though I haven't been living here. There are still many great things about the town, especially compared to where I was living previously. I'll always be proud of where I come from but am also proud of where I am now - it feels like home already!

Hi Platty,
Yes I was. I used to play for Shotton CC and captained them for a couple of years. I also worked at Shotton Lane Club and The Clwyd back in the day.
Moved away in 2002, returned to the Quay in 2016 and moved to Wigan in 2020.
