Over 70's Driving Licence Renewal

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

Have to admit I am well over the three score years and ten.

In past, have just filled in the form, and returned.

This time, in view of Covid, they say that process subject to delay as many staff working from home, and they can only process such applications on site at DVL.

So, they encourage you to opt for renewing online, which I have. Also have to cut and return existing licence.

Does anyone know if they delay sending new licence until they receive the cut previous licence?

It's just that the timing is a bit awkward, as driving licence is the only document that Amazon delivery drivers are accepting to age verify my alcohol deliveries in this run up to Christmas.

There is no way I could pass for under age, but the couriers do not have discretion, they have to enter the verification on their hand held devices.

Some of these deliveries are my regular recurring monthly subscriptions, but I know from previous years that in December, they deliver about two weeks early to clear the Christmas period.

I do hope I am not going to miss my deliveries because I cannot offer age verification!

Is a driving licence the only verification accepted. Why not bus pass or passport? Everyone does not have a driving licence, are these people excluded from delivery of alcohol?

It doesn't really matter as long as your in date.send your old one in straight away. They know that you have a licence even if you haven't received it and so do the police.

First time I applied for over 70's licence, they simply did not bother posting it to me. For inexplicable reasons, they had decided to keep hold of it, though did send it when I wrote to complain!

The letter to prompt me to renew that I received this time did say delay expected if postal application submitted.

Thanks everyone for replying, shall cross my fingers hoping licence arrives before any more booze from Amazon.

ps I guess they will accept passport for age verification. Much as I would love to go gallivanting around the globe, health is not up to it. So I aint got a current passport. I have other ID, alas none of it being photo ID, as required.

Oh heck - just a couple of years away for me. I wonder what the rules will be by then. However, Although I have been driving since 1975 I perhaps have some personal traits that don't conform with today's regulations. However, I constantly see maneuverers, parking, etc. that are totally illegal. I don't consider myself a good driver (I hate driving) but I do know my highway code and I haven't ever had an accident that was my fault. The problems on the road at the moment are from cyclists (not the serious ones) who think the code doesn't apply to them - further concerning is the electric scooters. I was recently in Bristol and when my pedestrian lights went green - then I had to dodge 3 scooters who came through on red. Over 70s? What about under educated!
