Home heating proposals

Been looking at the proposals changing from fossil fuels to heat pumps with regard to grants to do so.
As far as I am concerned it will be an almighty upheaval and expensive operation as I have two boilers to provide part warm air and part radiator heating and neither with an outside wall exhaust vent.
On the other hand will I be entitled to two grants to change both boilers, draw your own conclusions.

Hydrogen

Then there is the Hydrogen Fuel Cell, a few years ago that was lauded as the way forward, to power by electric, but the electric provided by hydrogen, via fuel cell technology, but they said that it needed energy to make the hydrogen, and that energy came from electricity, powered by fossil fuels, so back to square one, no point, because the CO2 would be coming out of power station chimneys, rather than car exhausts, but if that zero emission way of making hydrogen works, then that might be the way forward, but for me these ideas and technologies never make their way into commercial use, they just remain research projects.

My eldest lives in Canada, temperatures often go down to -20 , Last year he invested in a air source heat pump system and he is so pleased, he wished he'd done in 10 years ago, It was installed and commissioned in one day, No pipes or ductings around the house, there are 2 units fixed outside, one does up and one down and the whole house will reach 20 degrees with the outside temp at -20,, It also does air conditioning in Summer,

My warm air heating will do cool air in hot weather but I have never used as the house is well insulated including cavity wall insulation. I have looked more into the gas boiler replacement and it seems ONLY a WET system can use these heat pumps.
However I am under the impression factories/commercial and other open space buildings are mainly warm air heated. What solution will be required for those?

When I lived in Ghana, (and throughout those hot countries) there were air conditioners attached to walls to reduce the air to cool. All over the place, on public buildings, offices, etc. We had central air conditioning (similar to heating here).

Those heat pumps look very similar to those air conditioning monstosities, and I think it is a sort of reverse technology.

Platty you're spot on there mate, they are basically a fridge and the good thing is, nobody ever moans about a fridge using too much electricity because they don't and they are turned on 24/7, Its the same principle, you find the setting you need and keep it at that.

johnson looking after the private sector again . those units can be very pricey .

Well great, BUT...

Currently, my leccy costs more than three times my gas per KWH.

You are only going to save if you can get your leccy at a favourable price: who knows what it will cost in long term. Looking at historical fuel price comparisons does not fill me with optimism.

i,m sure he got mistook when he said green is right i,m sure he meant greed . johnson will get in bed with anyone & doesnt care who gets hurt . remember the £350 mill a week for the nhs ? .

i have 3 air cons that blow hot and cold and its not the same technology what i see with heat pumps they have a boiler and heat water and come with radiators and stay at a constant heat of about 20 degrees !! it like saying just because a car and a plane have wheels they are the same
And if anyone wants to know aircons over here are about 300 pound for a small/medium room and 130 pound to get it fitted

I just think you are all missing the point ,,,and that is in the end we all will be hammered with higher than normal cost's ,he and his cronies are not in the business of helping the likes of us mere mortals ..There will be vast savings ,, just not for us but his tory rich mates .......GB

Where will the vast savings come from?
Heat pumps only work effectively in well insulated properties. Gas central heating radiators run at an average of 75 degrees centigrade which allows for a comfortable temperature with low levels of insulation. Heat pumps running at 20 degrees centigrade are rendered next to useless in a poorly insulated house. They also cost more to run than gas CH boilers.
If the government insist on blackmailing us to go green it will end with a poll tax style revolt. More so if the big polluters carry on as usual.
