Hate is so sad

I do not post very often but something that concerns me more and more is the nastiness in our society and even more sad is that it happens on this very site as well. I hope I do not look back with 'rose tinted' glasses but it seems that society has developed to now air any disagreements with venomous comments and which then turns into violence and ever increasing threatening actions and words. I believe one major factor in this expression of hate is social media which has many blessings for us but sadly can be used to promote violence and trouble (Wigan v Bolton last Saturday). Please can we use this and similar sites to the advantage of everyone and for the good of all rather than promoting ill will. We should not need Admin to police the messages but as responsible citizens ourselves have the highest standards and stand up for good and honesty.

Fully agree with you oldswint. I don't think I hate anyone maybe just a few itches that are difficult to scratch. I think if you can't say/write anything nice then keep shtum - lets be kind ..... yes!!

well said oldswint. I just can't understand the behaviour of some of the people on this site. Why do people enjoy goading and stirring up a bickering fest? why do people respond? why is it so hard for some just to ne pleasant and supportive of others instead of taking delight in causing upset? Having said that I think the majority of people in this group are on the right side but sadly the bad stops them posting.

I couldn't agree more, berylh. I started this to try and reduce the totally irresponsible 'back biting' and sniping and to encourage responsible posts of help and support, friendship and useful information for all members. I am 87, so an old codger now, but I am still a very proud Wigan lad and I claim that Wigan people are the friendliest in the land.
