Gas and Electric prices!!

Started by: fedup (231)

Our supplier Eon wish me to pay an extra £63 per month to keep my account on track!!!!
Is this a symptom of this country's ridiculous management of our power supplies by successive Governments? We seem to buy in power from overseas or from foreign based providers rather than produce our own!
I hope it's not a result of the current ridiculous "Green agenda" whereby this current Government and PM seem to think we can stop "Climate Change"?
When will the idiots realise that it is a losing battle and instead of trying to " lead the world" we should be preparing for the changes that will undoubtedly come?
Their current efforts are as daft and probably as costly as HS2 (another vanity project!)
Civil unrest soon? It would not surprise me!

Fedup, Its the papershuffing , desk jocky, pen pushers who squeeze them selves between the , supplier and the consumer, this country has a disease of non working , blood sucking leeches, they bought loads of gas and promised to sell it to the consumer cheaper than the supplier, They came unstuck,
Work shy , jack the lads with, get rich schemes preying on the honest people, dick turpens without the mask, A product of , Education and modern life,
because, the only ' proper jobs are, in order of merit
Doctors, nurses, police firemen , Plumbers , turf and soil suppliers ,Bin men Tanker drivers and English corner shop keepers.
anyone else is a blood sucking leech,

Forget 'how much a month' you pay. Find out the unit price and the standing charge.
These companies aren't "suppliers", like they say they are, they are merely 'billling' companies, Mr. 10%.

I fell out with British Gas, a couple of years ago, and went to one called "Bulb". I was talked into a 'monthly fixed price' account. £62 direct debit.
After two years at £62 a month I'm £283 in credit.
That means, to me, I'm paying too much.
So why have they told me my monthly price will be going up?

Bloody frauds!

Isn’t the whole point of fixed price monthly debits to help people budget over the year…….yet here we all are moaning about the situation!!

If you aren’t happy go back to paying the bill off every month or every quarter.

Dougie, I'm currently with Bulb.
Following your recommendation, here's my quote off Zebra :-

Zebra Fixed 24 Month Exclusive V10 Paper Billing
£137.33 Per Month
Save -£387.90 per year
Total annual cost: £1,647.90
Existing annual cost £1,260.00

Electricity

Our Tariff .......... Your Current Tariff

Tariff cost: £813.31 .......... £660.00
Standing Charge: 30 p/day .......... 28.74 p/day
Unit Price: 25.091 p/kWh .......... 19.789 p/kWh
Monthly Amount £67.78 .......... £55.00
Exit Fees: £30.00 .......... £0.00

Gas

Our Tariff .......... Your Current Tariff

Tariff cost : £834.58 .......... £600.00
Standing Charge: 28 p/day .......... 35.13 p/day
Unit Price: 6.181 p/kWh ........... 3.982 p/kWh
Monthly Amount £69.55 .......... £50.00

So, Dougie, it seems like changing to Zebra would cost me £387.90 per year!

I phoned 'Specsavers' and told the girl "I was recommended to go to you".
She said, "Sorry, we don't do gas and electric, only spectacles"!

"Forget 'how much a month' you pay. Find out the unit price and the standing charge."
The voice of sense. I'm in total agreement with that statement, Tonker
Does not matter how much payment a month a company wants off you its what they charge per kilowatt that you should be concerned about
Ive had one company go bust last December, Yorkshire Energy and they were cheap so Im not really surprised that they went bust. I got moved to Scottish Power by Ofgem but very swiftly changed suppliers to Outfox The Market when I saw the prices per kilowatt's For the record my payments dropped by £20 a month.

I'm going for the last man standing out of the small energy suppliers
Zebra Energy a Manchester supplier ,I know it's not the cheapest but it only costs me £56.46 per month, been with them last 3 years

That's the problem with these automatic renewals Say you die and your wife doesn't realise that this automatic payment is taken out. We pay around fifty five pounds a month over twelve months for our gas. The heating is on now and will not go off until April / May. When we are out or on holiday we leave it at 19c and turn it up as necessary when we are in. in cold times we probably have it at 24c. It is false economy and suicide to turn the heat off.

Tonks - hasn't Bulb gone bust? 19 domestic fuel companies have gone bust over the last 4 months. Costs are due to get worse in April. When a company takes over customers from the bust companies, the new company has to go out and buy fuel for their new customers, such fuel price has rocketed as we've all seen. Ofgem has imposed a levy on all suppliers to share the cost of these companies baling out the busted ones and, I read, that the cost of that and the prices of buying the extra fuel is going to hit the consumer in April.
And of course the increase for the green loonacy.

OK, there was a TEMPORARY shortfall in supply when there was an uptake in demand as lockdowns eased and commercial activity recommenced.

However, the longer term picture is of both supply and demand increasing at a moderate rate: in fact a continuation of supply/demand features which were occurring prior to Covid related issues.

Surely, what we need is some kind of 'phase change' based storage facility, so that we can (loss-less) store the excess heat of Summer, to warm us in the wintertime.

UK gov could immediately relieve us of almost a quarter of our electricity costs!

This is because approx 23% of our leccy bills consists of levies.(ie a tax)

OK, this represents costs which would otherwise fall upon the taxpayer, but collecting the money in this way means that it is disproportionately paid by the less well off, who spend a much greater share of their income on fuel bills.

Some of these are historical costs, such as paying for a clean up of former nuclear power generation: that power which was "too cheap to meter" although even at the time, was the most expensive of our power generation options, and we are still adding to this bill! (In reality it was a hidden way of financing UK' nuclear weapons. Granted these have to be paid for, but there is a gross injustice in paying for them in this way: Government concealing its errors by keeping a cost off the books, methinks.)

Some of the excess are the so called green levies.

OK, you can make a case for these.

But, look more closely. eg A massive state subsidy to have Drax burn wood pellets rather than coal.

But, for each unit of power generated, Drax emits 10% more Carbon Dioxide from its wood-burn than it would from coal-burn. A carbon footprint only increased if you add the carbon cost of forestry, tree-felling, processing and transportation! These emissions are not counted. They are occurring not here, but in USA.

Once again, accountancy model to tick the right box, and suggest a target has been met in these respects, although IN REALITY, the result is greater greenhouse gas emissions! AND WE THE CUSTOMER PAY FOR IT!

No molecule of Carbon Dioxide is going to choose to behave differently on the grounds of being born here, or Stateside.

And the claim that the emissions due to wood fuel is offset by tree planting is fallacious! Sustainable forest labels are being attached to wood that will take from 20 to 80 years to regrow: even if it is replaced (much is not), how likely is it that such a status would be sustained over such a long period!

We are being taken for a ride!
