supermarket staff

Morrisons followed by Tesco to trial stores with no staffWho restacks the shelves/freezers with no staff Asda took a lot of staffed tills out plus self serve conveyors and replaced with scanner guns or small self serve tills. How can you put a weekly shop through a small self serve till.I was in Asda today and people were queueing at the manned tills and every thing else was empty. I said it was a man sat on his arse in a office who came up with the idea. Either his wife did the shopping or he had his order delivered

The self serve trolley tills are quite spacious and easily take 3 bags on the packing side.

I use scan as you shop (my phone in ASDA and Sainsburys) and a handheld in Tesco (who started this about 6 years ago).

It's quicker, no queues, in and out, a security check once in every 10/15 shops or so, and randomly.

Scan as you shop is not for everyone.

The problem with Aldi and Lidl is the shops are too small.

I find Lidl demoralising.

Silly queues with tills opening and closing constantly.

No music and no ambiance.

A strange feeling of 'get in and get out'.

And all the fresh bread rolls taste of nothing.

Hi Angelwood , just like to add that ALDI is owned by two brothers who are German also LIDL is owned by a German, Dieter Schwarz who's revenue total's £ 140 BILLION Just like to say that these two giants in our food industry take all the profits back to the RHINELAND ,another example of money flowing from Britain to Germany ......ASDA owned by the YANKS so money flows to the USA , IT JUST GOES ON,ON,ON gb.

GB yes I know they are. I feel sorry for the staff at the big supermarkets, they don't have a choice in what is happening in their stores. I have notices there are far more people filling shelves in Asda now.

GB?
You make it sound like a crime. Between them ALDI and LIDL employ around 60, 000 people in the UK and support a similar number in the UK supply chains. They pay the UK taxes and VAT they are liable for and doing so contribute to the UK economy. Where the profits go and what happens to them is non or our concern. You can hold it all against them but the fact is if they were not operating the UK we would be worse off.

And by the way.......ASDA is not owned by the Americans
