Rugby League Rule?

Started by: admin (1643)

When a team gets a free kick, and kick for touch Is there a rule that says they can only kick it 20 yards? I've never seen anyone kick it 80 yards. Teams try their utmost to get a 20-40 kick yet when they have an opportunity, unopposed, to kick the ball the length of the field they just kick it a few yards into touch... Punchy Griffiths will be tuning in his grave...

Because kicked into touch they get 6 plays and still have control of the ball.

Yes I know that?? but why do they only kick it 10 -20 yards into touch, Instead of kicking it 60-70 yards

I agree admin…it’s as though they’re not bothered about getting upfield…there’s an art in kicking into touch putting spin on the ball…that art like many others in rugby league has sadly been lost

Yeh, but kicking into touch making sure it goes in touch and not kicking 80 yards giving the defending team chance to get the ball because it's not gone out of play.

Doesn’t have to be 80 yards but kicking 10-20 yards seems illogical and boring

Platty Fred 'Punchy' Griffiths would regularly kick the ball the length of the field into touch, and that was with a PROPER Rugby Ball probably weighing 4 times as much as the ball they use today. The commentators are in raptures when one team kicks a 40-20 Seems illogical to me that when they have chance to kick the ball, unopposed, they just kick it just a few yards. If a rugby player can't kick a ball into touch, a fair distance, he shouldn't be on the field The team should have someone who practices this kicking at Free Kicks

Admin Shouldn't this be on the Manchester United forum or won't the 3 Amigos allow it.
