Parking near Earlestown Station

I'm off for an overnight stay in Chester next week. which due to Covid is 18 months overdue... I'm considering going by train from Earlestown as the Hotel want £15.00 for parking overnight. Can anyone suggest a safe car park or parking place near the station to leave my car ?

Go from Newton le willows station they have a large car park, it may be free for rail users but i cannot say for sure

There's a car park across from Earlestown Station. It's on Fairclough Street. Free parking except market days (monday and friday mornings)

Tonker, I am going Thursday and coming back Friday so the car park is a non starter... Checked the information on the car park at Newton Le Willows and the comments are saying if you aren't there before 8.am forget it. as all the places have gone . Might just leave it in the street opposite the station, as I did a couple of years ago when I went for the day

Regarding there being no spaces at Newton after 8 am, when was that written? Also with many office types working from home there may be a few empty spaces. When they revamped the station they greatly increased the car park capacity and there is also another smaller car park near the millstone pub, failing that park opposite the petrol station at the bottom of the steps where the residents have illegally stuck residents only parking signs on their walls, so you can legaly park there if theres a space.

Streets opposite the Station always have room in front of the houses I always park there when i go to Liverpool it's no problem.

I go to a dentist at the Victoria road end of Wargrave road. Sometimes I have needed to park almost as far as the station. Most houses around there are terraced so residents use street parking. I do usually find a spot but that's daytime when people may be working. Good luck!

Fairclough Street, in any case is being used as a Covid-19 testing site at the moment, so it is closed, and in normal times, no one parks on there at night, and the local kids use it as a skateboard park, so if anyone parks their car on there at night, then the kids will use it has a take off ramp

Newton le Willows train station was recently converted in to a full Park and Ride train station, and the car park it has at the back is massive, and it is free to rail users, and it is a really nice station now, but the car park is not secure, and at night your car maybe the only car parked on there, with only the local kids for company, so I would give that place a bit of thought before using it.

As regards parking in the streets opposite the station, there is a block of flats there with some iffy types in it, and at night when everyone comes home from work, including the residents of those flats, then it is hard to find a parking space around there, so it is up to you, but parking there overnight, could make you unpopular with the local pond life.

So you want a secure type of car park with CCTV and plenty of folk knocking about, which is what you want, and a car park which is also used by local residents as the place where they park their car, so your car is not on its own in that car park, and a car park just around the corner from Earlestown Police Station, which is manned by the police 24hrs a day, and how about that car park also being opposite a car park which is for the exclusive use of the police officers, and which is also equipped with its own CCTV

If you scroll it around to the left, you will see a shop and in the street at the side of the shop, you will see that police personnel only car park, and if you look over to the right, the tall building behind that row of property is Earlestown Police Station.

Last year I went to Tesco at Earlestown, too doo some shopping, and it was closed, because the police and fire service thought that it and the rest of Earlestown was going to burn down, and they wanted it evacuated.

That was the same day that Tonker was at the Recycling Centre, which is what went up in flames, so I think that Tonker burned it down because he couldn't''t go to Spain

TTS i remember it well, i wasnt allowed to go back to the yard i had to park my lorry on Locket road at Bryn that night and walk it home because my car was trapped on the other side of the bridge

Yes and the fire damaged the bridge, which still has those temporary lights on it, that fire was Biblical

The road in the picture leads straight down to the station, past the Market, which is only held on Fridays now, but it is a busy market, and it puts our Markets in Wigan Metro to shame, Earlestown comes under St Helens.

I would say that using a brisk walk, it will take less than three minutes to walk to the station, take your time and it will still be less than five minutes walk to the station.

TTS I've been to Earlestown Car Boot sale on Saturdays a few times in the past, but I believe its now been stopped?? My wife regularly goes to the mid week market. Thanks for the info With my rail card it will only cost £11.00 for both of us return and it saves all the hassle of driving and parking. I did park in the street opposite the station the last couple of times I've been, but that was only for the day.

Well I am sure you will make the right decision, and I hope you enjoy your visit to Chester, and I have noticed myself the difference between going from Wigan, and going from Earlstown, and I have a railcard too

Going from Wigan with a rail card 'off peak' i.e. going after 13.00 and returning after 17.00 the day after £27.90. Going from Earlestown £11.40.

Why not get the bus to Earlestown

I think you can park on Old Wargrave Road, which is just behind the station and has an entrance off it to the Chester platform.

roylew according to the bus timetable it takes between. 47 min and 1 hour 7 mins from Wigan to Earlestown.

No hassle though admin…seems worth it to me for peace of mind

If you can find a parking spot Tonkers suggestion is a good one. It saves you a long walk from the station entrance to the Chester platform. When I go to Chester I get dropped off there. Have a ride up and have a recce.

I am going to park on the car park behind the town hall as suggested by TTS. It's used by the residents so it looks like it is as safe there as anywhere.

TTS. thanks for the parking info Parked there with no problem and as you said just a few minutes walk from the Station and as a BONUS I ticked another WETHERSPOONS off the list Got to say its very nice..It looks pretty new. The only problem was on the return my wife had great difficulty getting off the train at platform 4 as the platform is on a curve, the train door must have been at least 18" to2 feet from the platform edge.. Next time I'll ask the guard for a ramp.

you'd think in this day and age they would be accessible to all.

When I next go for the day. I'll park where TONKER suggested as it's a fair treck for my wife, from the station entrance to Platform 5 How do you get to that side? I couldn't see any road bridge that would take you over the tracks?

From Crow Lane, turn left into Victoria Road at the lights, and follow it down, it then goes under the railway line, and after that take the first right, and you are in the streets on that side of the station
