Victoria Street Roadworks

Started by: mortarmillbill (928)

Could someone supply a link to Wigan Councils news about the above roadworks starting on the 14 June 2021.

The work is being done by Bethells who are just finishing off the works at the Smithy Brook Road junction.

Lectriclegs - I think that's an old one.
There was a press release yesterday (Thursday) with the title "Working to make major junctions safe" it is on the Council website under news.

TTS has just posted the correct link - cheers.

Bethell are doing a job in Preston, it's taken them 9 months to resurface 100yards of road and put some block paving down.
They've still not finished, so good luck with 22 week schedule they've put on that one.

When the job started at Goose Green, they seemed to be surging ahead with it, but it now seems to have been stuck in the same place for months now, I cannot see what work they have done there, apart from the work they did there in the first month.

They must be getting a bonus for completing the job late, and the later they complete it, the more bonus they get

Hi just read TTS link :: about Victoria st/Warrington rd ,work starting 14/06/21 ( I USE THE WORK LITERALLY)) IT says it will take 22 yes twenty two WEEKS to complete ! Please tell me they are havin a LARF !!! 22 WEEKS I COULD BUILD A MOTORWAY IN THAT TIME .... Just which IDIOT on the council is approving this work???? Has he /she got relatives with BETHELS ?? Some one some where is getting an holiday or back hander for all this so-called work being doshed out . I used to think that corruption was limited to the tory party .,but on reflection this LABOUR stranglehold they have on this town WIGAN is now become a joke .
IF anyone can cast their minds back to the TSUMAMI in Japan a few years back ? Well one of their notable achievements was one of the highways was completely destroyed for a disatnce of around 10 /12 Miles ,the Japs removed and relayed a brand new motorway in just 6 weeks yes the whole shebang 6 weeks this lot over here would have taken 6 YEARS so i ask what is going on ?? Anothe comes to mind was SAN FRANCISCO AIRPORT THEY got the contract to complete in such a time i think it was around 4 years work ,,they finished it early by 18 months , one reason was that the penalty for late delivery were so huge thats why they get the work done !!! BUT HERE WELL NUFF SAID !!!!

Tarmac gangs on site this morning on the central reservation.

Overnight closures are programmed for next week presumably to resurface the roadway.

Some of the cycle lanes have been completed in green.

The end is in sight.

It didn't look like that on Monday, it looked like a reet mess, and I thought this is supposed to be completed by the middle of next/this month.

I guess if the UK was in a major earthquake zone like Japan is our government would also make resources available to repair and rebuild affected critical infrastructure in the quickest possible time.

The new traffic lights at the junction were working this morning.

There is still some overnight tarmac work to be done on the road and cycle lanes.

A new light controlled crossing has also been completed outside the butty shop near Alexandra Park.

Tommy, do you have any idea why has Wallgate got a wobbly bit near Arnold Clarkes? Not very good when driving in the dark.

AngelWood, I have not been up Wallgate for weeks now, I normally go to Wigan down the noo road, and through the Riverway roadworks, but I haven't been going further than Asda at Newtown, on that side of town

i was coming back from an appointment that way and the road now has 2 lanes, but it narrows by Arnold Clarkes and it is a bit disconcerting.
