Government to ban junk food ads before 9-00pm. Nothing being said about gambling sites from Post code lottery to betting on Sports which are shown at all times of the day

Junk food does't need adverts, Every McDonalds 24 hr drive through is busy all day and most of the night, So the TV ban will not cause any problems, I think they are trying to hit the, ' couch potato' who orders by phone and asks a friend to get it from the door to his/her couch and unwrap it for them,
, did somebody say, just eat ?

They want to ban the endless charity begging.Thinking about it,it's probably them that have made half the population depressed.

Couldn't agree more, sonlyme.
Sick of it on telly and in the streets too.
Far too many charities popping up everywhere. And far too many people's fingers in pies.

Jathbee there are approx 5000 charities registered every year in the uk .Some are needed but some are just a rich business which spend millions on adverts to generate more millions

The only charity I donate to is the SALVATION ARMY I always bought the War Cry when they came round to the pubs collecting back in the 1960's and 70's Even when I was a young lad I always bought a copy . Another Saturday night tradition consigned to the past. Like the Cockle Man..

Always thought that to be hypercritical, telling everybody to sign the pledge and then going in the boozer to raise money.

Another thing is adverts for cars. Renault advert for new elect car shows one car which only does 238miles but comes across has a different model which can do 245 milesNew mini with UK plates but small print shows not a UK interior but right hand drive. Most of the other car adverts have left hand drive and I can partly understand NOT to Uk specs

Advert on TV (Just!) is STILL saying, "Washing machines live longer with Calgon", even though Which has recently published research to show that THEY DO NOT!

I have nothing against Calgon. I use it because my tap water is extremely hard. It comes from underground source, and initially fell as rain on limestone ( Wolds)

But aforementioned report concludes Calgon does reduce build up of limescale, but for most users, the accumulated limescale, in its absence, is not sufficient to reduce the longevity of the machine!

It goes on to say putting the spend on Calgon towards the cost of machine replacement is more economical for most people.

So much then for TV ads being legal, decent and HONEST!

I have complained in the past to Advertising Standards (not, about Calgon), and have come to the conclusion they enforce standards not according to the veracity of the advert's content, but according to WHOM the miscreant advertiser happens to be. Just one more example of one law for one, and another for the rest of us!

There are so many people dependant on these places to feed themselves and worse still their children. Banning the adds won't make a jot of difference. Taste buds ruined forever. And so it will go on.

Unfortunately, adverts about junk food will not alter the fact that youngsters prefer it, probably because they've never known anything else.

A lot of younger women with kids haven't a clue how to cook so burgers, kebabs and chips are their staple diet these days, hence obesity in young people these days, but banning adverts won't make any difference as fast food outlets are here to stay.

The one advert that has angered me over the last few months was the household cleaner Cif and, although not verbalised in the ad itself, at the bottom it states that it KILLS viruses, including Covid-19, which is a blatant lie. However, I haven't seen that advert for over a week now, so perhaps someone has complained about it.
