I was just wondering

Started by: tomplum (12487)

I've spent a pleasant afternoon in the garden and noticed all my plants are flourishing in the greenhouse, This is not by accident or trial and error, I enticed this little fella, he seeks out the pests and vermin in the garden and terminates their unproductive ways, So i was thinking, if only this message board had a pest killer, it too would flourish ,

I also spent most of this aft' int' garden, but what I really enjoyed was the over the fence chin wag whi't neighbours.

Had maintained good contact wi t' immediate (next door) neighbours throughout lockdown, but today first opportunity in a while to chat with slightly more distant neighbours.

We have had a couple of wasps in the house these were soon dispatched but we noticed than they looked larger than normal. Most wasps are normaly about 3/4 of a inch long and slim but our two visitors looked about 11/2 inch long and seem fatter

A one and a half inch long Wasp.

What utter cobbler's.

Does salt kill wasps because I am being asked to sprinkle a lot of salt aboutI did not measure the wasps with a tape measure but they were longer than from the tip of my thumb to the 1st joint .

I was reburbing a bathroom a few years ago and could here a constant buzzing, then all of a sudden when I pulled a bathroom cabinet of the wall a nest was behind it and the room filled with angry black and yellow flying insects, I did not stop to find out what species I exited the room forthwith and shut the door, The owner of the house tried to contact the council but the pest control were busy, So she rang round and this bee keeper came, he donned a suit and mask and went in the room with a henry vacuum cleaner and sucked them all in,, 15 mins later he was driving away with £200 in his pocket, ,
So try that Peter, a hover I mean. not calling a bee keeper

Tom,some years ago,I heard a lot of noise coming from the chimney breast then all of a sudden thousands of flying ants swarmed into the room,to shorten the story,I got the Henry out and got them all ( the room was black because they'd all flown to the window) I filled three black bin bags with them..
it was horrible.

Back to topic .When we lived in the terraced house we had 6 ft walls all round the back garden and the gap under the back gate was that small it nearly scrapped the concrete yet we had a hedehog in the garden. We often wondered how it got into the garden

We once had one in our garden, and had no idea how it had got in,he was covered in small white blobs, there used to be a retired couple near us that would take any stray animal..their garage was full of all sorts of them, and they paid for their food out of their own pocket, the RSPCA used to send them money but stopped as they said they were taking too many animals in,I took this little one to them, she said they were ticks, took them off then gave it an injection..I was so relieved..we donated a bit of cash as a thank you.

A gypsy delicacy I've heard, In my opinion they should be protected by Law as swans are, They are endangered because of the use of slug pellets, gardeners protect their gardens by spreading slug pellets, the slugs eat the pellets, the hedgehog eats the slugs then, the hedgehog dies too,
pests cause more problems even when to kill them,
