TRACKERS

Started by: GOLDEN BEAR (6555)

Has anyone read a report in today's paper regarding a suggestion about fitting a tracking device in your car ,if one is over 70 of age and i poor health they list several disabilities if you fall into one or two of these categories you will be asked to have your vehicle fitted with one of these trackers and there would be limits on where you can drive and what time .As an example you would be limited to driving in a 30 mile radius and some would be barred from driving at night .. Well i don't know you think but i see this as another attack on a persons human rights we already have big bro watching and knowing who and how we contact others i do appreciate the fact that as we all get older we are not as aware as when we were younger ,but i feel this is totally unnecessary .

I read that in one of the major UK newspapers over the weekend. More than likely the Mail.

The story is in today's paper , but it says it is for
people over 70 who have been banned from driving for health reasons , they could be re-introduced onto
the road on a "graduated license "with as the O.P
says a travel limit and other limitations such as a ban on night driving . The idea is being discussed between the DVLA and driving mobility .

Breathalysers in cars will never happen for legal and liability reasons.

If a car was fitted with one and it developed a fault that let a drunken driver use who then wiped out a group of pensioners at a bus stop whose fault would it be?

GB, you will know as well as I do, at night when the roads are quiet, cars go up and down Poolstock lane at breakneck speeds, Which is, reckless driving, driving without due care and total disregard for any other road user or pedestrian, I would put a very high bet, none of these drivers are 70 years old, Its they who need monitoring and banning from driving,

It is a difficult one.

I am, myself, an aged driver, keen to point out we have better safety record than younger drivers.,

But there is no getting away from the fact that we have not got the sharpness we had when we were younger, and SOME seniors do refuse to recognise their limitations and cause dangers to others.

How you restrain this latter group, whilst preserving the freedom of responsible senior drivers poses a significant dilemma. It will be interesting to see what answers emerge.
