Grime

Started by: ena malcup (4151)

What is the best way to clean grime (accumulated muck of ages) from painted woodwork?

Skirtings, architraves and suchlike.

Part of my house has not been in use. I have not been unduly concerned about the grime, since when areas are brought back into use, the surfaces have received sugar soap and abrasive cleaning and repainting. (If not stripping)

However, next week my provider is to install Full Fibre Broadband, and will install runs attached to these skirtings and architraves.

I want the underlying surfaces to be as clean as possible, since I understand the fibre is fragile, and wish to avoid disturbing it when any future work takes place.

Any advice appreciated.

Household Ammonia seems to be the best of the options which I have so far tried.

if your skirting is white buy mini-trunking from screwfix or wickes. It's cheap, protective and you hardly see it's there

Just had a phone call from them. Installation has to be put back a week or so, so pressure is off. Now have plenty of time to deal with it.

I just ran my cable under the edge of the carpet, inbetween the skirting and the carpet track. I wouldn't have it on the skirting board on view. Neither would I put it on anybody elses skirting board either.
Anything for the easiest these cowboy tradesmen.
Especially plastic windows fitters!

They will not do that. They say the fibre is fragile and should not be moved once installed.
