Safety alert on Poolstock:

Started by: wigvet (3549)

SAFETY WARNING: Please be aware and take care.

The Council over the weekend have widened the footpath on Poolstock near Morton Avenue, the work being carried out under temporary traffic lights which have now been removed.
The issue now is that because of the footpath widening the Wigan bound carriageway has been reduced in width and because of this ‘narrowing’ HGV vehicle and buses coming into Wigan must cross over the white line, in the centre of the carriageway, into the face of oncoming traffic.
The carriageway markings should have been reconfigured BEFORE this road was open to traffic or at the very least temporary warning signs put in place to warn motorists of the impending danger.
Be careful if driving on Poolstock – a major hazard is now in place – rectification works are urgently needed.

FOOTNOTE: I did inform the council promptly yesterday morning; and their response? They sent someone out yesterday afternoon who attempted to ‘blacken-out’ the white lines in the centre. However, he must have used ‘liquid liquorice’ as the lines are still clearly visible! Be careful along there folks.

Wigvet,,
I noticed it today are you are right i just wonder for example if there were to be an accident along that stretch ie a car or something and because of the narrowness how would the insurance companies view it ??? i do think it is short sightedness on the council to just leave it hotpotch !! ( is that a word ) ? But thanks for the info Wigvet ..

I noticed that Morton Avenue had been narrowed.

Anyone know whether it is going to be made a one way street?

this widening action comes very quickly after the bus stop on a bend,if you have one eye on pedestrians crossing the road at that point its not at all safe.

Hi baker boy;
I agree completely i just think that the boffins who set all these plans out on paper have not got a clue as to what they are doing ,then again i think they might which is they don't give a toss about motorist's ,also has anyone looked into the loss of trade which might occur due to all this palaver ie shop tesco/roadside cafe /galloways etc ?? plus that car sales garage he might as well pack up has nobody will go down there after the 5 months turmoil .G.B.
