I have had private health insurance since the late 1960s. I Have explained before on these boards that it came about as part of my late husbands pay package, it was a family cover. My son used it once for removal of an ingrowing toe nail. He became exempt at 21. I have used it over a period of a few months for a small back problem in th 1970s. During my husbands terminal illnes it gave superbservice. Hovever now that I have had my 80th birthday I am obliged to contribute monthly, I will do so willingly.
Another thing is health insurance people are accused of jumping the queue, are we not shortening the queue.
Forgot to say some payment was taken from his works pension contributions during his working life.

If you think him serving in WW2 is putting it very loosely, I would suggest you look up his WWII Campaign medals and the reasons for him having them. Then compare them to your own.

Naval ranks and appointments

1940 – 1941: Midshipman, HMS Ramillies, HMS Valiant
1941 – 16 July 1942: Sub-Lieutenant, HMS Wallace
16 July 1942 – October 1942: Lieutenant, HMS Wallace
October 1942 – 15 August 1950: First Lieutenant, HMS Wallace, HMS Whelp, HMS Chequers
15 August 1950 – 2 February 1952: Lieutenant Commander, HMS Chequers, HMS Magpie
2 February 1952 – 15 January 1953: Commander, HMS Magpie
15 January 1953 – : Admiral of the Fleet, RN

I would say that was quite a lot to give to this country wouldn't you?

Prince Philip a leech?

I see the moaners are out again!

It is tradition the high ranking members of the royal family join the armed forces at some point, even the queen did a bit during WW2 and I think its true to say that Phil has given more for this country in terms of military service than any other royal in modern history.

Obviously not an important consideration for some........ most of whom will have done sweet FA!!!

tsk tsk tsk.

If Monarchy were to be abolished and we were to have something like a president as head of state I don't think it would cost the taxpayer less. A president would be afforded all the same rights and privileges, palaces country homes etc. Then there is the ongoing security for the family. After leaving office security will still be needed for his/her family until death. The next and next president and so on the same. Think young presidents living for decades, could be twenty families requiring security wherever they went. They certainly won't be going back to a semi. This is only one aspect of changing the head of state.

The guy is a star - here's some one liners

1. "British women can't cook" (in Britain in 1966).

2. "What do you gargle with, pebbles?" (speaking to singer Tom Jones after the 1969 Royal Variety Performance).

3. "I declare this thing open, whatever it is." (on a visit to Canada in 1969).

4. "Everybody was saying we must have more leisure. Now they are complaining they are unemployed" (during the 1981 recession).

5. "If it has got four legs and it is not a chair, if it has got two wings and it flies but is not an aeroplane, and if it swims and it is not a submarine, the Cantonese will eat it." (at a 1986 World Wildlife Fund meeting).

6. "It looks like a tart's bedroom." (on seeing plans for the Duke and Duchess of York's house at Sunninghill Park in 1988)

7. "Yak, yak, yak; come on get a move on." (shouted from the deck of Britannia in Belize in 1994 to the Queen who was chatting to her hosts on the quayside).

8. "We didn't have counsellors rushing around every time somebody let off a gun, asking 'Are you all right? Are you sure you don't have a ghastly problem?' You just got on with it." (about the Second World War commenting on modern stress counselling for servicemen in 1995).

9. "How do you keep the natives off the booze long enough to get them through the test?" (to a driving instructor in Oban, Scotland, during a 1995 walkabout).

13. "Deaf? If you are near there, no wonder you are deaf." (to young deaf people in Cardiff, in 1999, referring to a school's steel band).

14. "They must be out of their minds." (in the Solomon Islands, in 1982, when he was told that the annual population growth was 5%).

15. "You are a woman, aren't you?"(In Kenya, in 1984, after accepting a small gift from a local woman).

16. "If you stay here much longer, you'll all be slitty-eyed." (to British students in China, during the 1986 state visit).

17. "Your country is one of the most notorious centres of trading in endangered species in the world." (in Thailand, in 1991, after accepting a conservation award).

18. "Oh no, I might catch some ghastly disease." (in Australia, in 1992, when asked to stroke a Koala bear).

19. "You can't have been here that long - you haven't got a pot belly." (to a Briton in Budapest, Hungary, in 1993).

20. "Aren't most of you descended from pirates?" (to a wealthy islander in the Cayman Islands in 1994).

21. "You managed not to get eaten, then?" (suggesting to a student in 1998 who had been trekking in Papua New Guinea that tribes there were still cannibals).

22. In Germany, in 1997, he welcomed German Chancellor Helmut Kohl at a trade fair as "Reichskanzler" - the last German leader who used the title was Adolf Hitler.

23. "You're too fat to be an astronaut." (to 13-year-old Andrew Adams who told Philip he wanted to go into space. Salford, 2001).

24. "I wish he'd turn the microphone off." (muttered at the Royal Variety Performance as he watched Sir Elton John perform, 2001).

The list goes on ---

I hope he gets well, we'll miss his gags !!!!

If the point made about Prince Philips exemplary naval career during the war and his achievements after is again "putting it very loosely" it is not only an insult to him but every sailor, soldier and airman/woman who wore the uniform during those dark days.

You are in no way obliged to remain in this country if our Royal family abhors that much. I make no apology for my comments either.

I HAD a friend of mine who's dad was in WIGAN INFIRMARY and was in his later stage of living , but his son was refused a visit , sadly my friends father died ,then he was contacted and told " HE COULD COME AND SEE HIM"" How bloody heartless and cruel was that? And yet the other day a royal pratt was allowed to visit his dad , WHY?WHY? Is not the case of one LAW for one and another LAW for us mere mortals ....I was devasted to hear from my mate about his predicament seeing him lately i believe he has still not got over how he was not allowed to be with his dad just before he closed his eye's for the last time .... Before i published this i did ask him was it ok for me to do so he said yes .I know people will say this and that but i think it was very, very cruel.

Maybe you should have taken more notice in your English classes at school, wasn't comprehension part of it.
Or maybe your teacher just gave up on you.

Please try to get something right.
Both Nanajacqui and myself are English through and through. Not some corny, pretend, American police officers.
You must watch some trashy television programmes
No wonder your comprehension skills are so bad.

A Primary School we learned English Comprehension, and English Composition, Spelling and Grammar, and how to write, printing first, then joined up 'real writing' skills, and that was at a County Primary School in an old pit village.
At 11yrs of age in the last year of Primary School, we took the 11 plus and if you were clever you went to Grammar School, and if you were not so clever you went to a Secondary Modern School

Basil did not learn anything at school, because he was stood in the 'naughty corner' all day, for being nasty to girls, pulling their hair and kicking their shins

TTS I think you may have got the order of things wrong.
It was the girls who were kicking his shins and pulling his hair.

That's why he sits behind his keyboard and name calls the females here.
He's more to be pitied than laughed at. Oh!! I don't know though.
