Did anyone witness the floods on thursday down pottery road way ? we were going to asda when all the traffic built back if you excuse me for asking but all this flood defence work that has been done was it to stop what happened last week?? or are the defence 's some other place ? also when coming out of asda the retail park side the r/about there was aslo flooded a lady who works in asda said it always does that , i thought does this come under rivers/water way folk or the council whatever it just seems to keep on happening ,i just think with our weather getting more wetter will this be something we just have to put with ?

GB I think the road at the back of Asda is lower than the canal and does flood on a regular bases

I think you mean the River Douglas and not the canal which is further away.

I think that Southgate was designed with that low point under the bridge to collect flood water, which has overwhelmed the flood defences, there are actually tanks buried underground at the side of Southgate, which collect excess water, and the water is pumped into them by electric pumps.

That should stop flooding after a heavy shower, a cloudburst, but if the water builds up because of constant rain, then there is bugger all anyone can doo about it, but by having a collection point for the water, under the bridge and at the roundabout at the back of Asda, the fire brigade can quickly pump away the water, if the flooding was all around, then where would the firemen stick their hoses

TTS if the dougie is flooded and some people think that is why near asda floods how can you pump water back to were it is alleged came from in the 1st place There was once a detailed explanation either on WW years ago or the Lancs Evening post about why the island and further up the bridge at Martland Mill flooded on a regular bases.

They will only pump if the Duggies has gone down, otherwise the water will just come back up through the grids, and then it takes them about a minute to pump away the puddle.
That was years ago, so I don't know how they doo it now, maybe they have electric pumps which do it now, because they did doo a lot of work down there to alleviate the floofing problem

Golden Bear

We have an Amber warning for flooding in the coming days, with heavy rain forecast over the West Pennine Moors, which is where the River Duggy get it's water from

Amber Warning

So we will be able to see how the firemen pump out the back of Asda
