Dementia.

Picking the forums brains.. My uncle in his early seventies has dementia and hasn't been too much of a problem to his family... Lately and progressively he has started to wander and loose all recognition of his family at times.. He's a big chap and powerful... His sons live nearby but with work commitments can't be at the call of their mum as and when required... Yesterday he went AWOL for an hour or so but luckily was traced and returned home... What we are enquiring about in the family is some sort of personal tracker device.. Be it a watch.. Badge.. Or something similar... Better if it was an item he couldn't remove... Has any of you good souls dealt with anything similar or could recommend an item... Many thanks. B. B.

There's quite a few available. Just type into google - 'gps tracker' or 'vodaphone curve'.

Sorry for your predicament BB. Not had personal involvement, thank the Lord, but an elderly neighbour was doing the same as your uncle and I spent some time searching with her family when she would go AWOL.

My father suffers from dementia and Alzheimers, at the moment it's mostly confusion, forgetfulness, instability and inability to take care of himself. No wandering yet, maybe never. But I've been looking at this device which can be hidden on his jacket. Sorry, no idea how to post links.

My mother has vascular dementia and Alzheimer's. As she is independent and lives alone, so I have arranged for 2 care visits each day (I am locked down due to being extremely clinically vulnerable). I initially arranged a visit from the Alzheimer's Society who have been very helpful. If you contact them they can perhaps advise on the best action to take.

It is horrible BB, not only for the sufferer but for the family it is very stressful and frustrating. Glad you got the tracker sorted.
