I'll Try Again...

Tea leaf reading, or Tasseography, was first attributed to people in China who have held a deep adoration of tea and its beneficial qualities for centuries.

Fortune tellers began to notice patterns and shapes left in their cups after drinking tea and interpreted them as prophecies and messages of the past, present and future. This spread and developed during the seventeenth century when Dutch merchants introduced tea to Europe. As a cheap method of fortune-telling, it only required a cup of tea so became increasingly popular as both a means to tell the future and a method of entertainment.

Have you have ever had your tea leaves read? I remember the old women in the street used to gather for a brew then have a session of reading each others cups. I don't suppose it happens much these days with teabags being so easy to brew up.

No jokes about the chap with piles who was told to rub cold wet tea leaves on them. When he went to see his Dr for help the Doc said there wasn't much he could do but look at them. Over the chap bent and asked are they bad? No said the Doc but I see you are going on a long journey.

Terry, I sell both Indian and Chinese tea in my corner shop, Because of where we live, people prefer the ole tea bag so. Its very rare to meet a person of your standing , education and worldliness , I once went in Gypsy rose Lee's cabin in Blackpool, she offered me a cup of Tasseography and gave me 6 numbers for the next lottery, Of course it did not win, So I went back for a refund and there was a sign on the door,

"THIS CABIN IS NOW CLOSED DUE TO , UNFORESEEN CIRCUMSTANSANCES "

I don't ruddy tea-leaf it!

No not tea leaves Terry,but I went to a house many years ago & about ten of us ladies were there.A Clairvoyant took us one by one into another room & said exactly the same to each of us.One lady was pregnant & she never picked up on that so we gave her £5 each instead of £8. You should have seen her face when we told her !

I saw that, but I missed it at the time, and the first time I saw it was on YooTube, and it must be one of the funniest things I have ever seen

She came to my friends house about 45 years ago Terry & I can't remember her name sorry

TerryW - did she work as a dinner lady?

If it's the same lady she'll be about 90 now

Margery died some years ago 2002, she was a nurse at Whelley if I remember right.

Could be her then Terry,I don't know her background

She worked at Whelley Hospital the same time as I did..I could tell a story re what she told me one night,but it's a bit long.
On another note,she told the the women of a group one night that "sadly one of us won't be here next week"...it was her that wasn't there,she fell down the stairs and died..I can't remember who told me.I also have her book,it's very interesting.

She was about 5 foot 8" not slim and wore glasses

Margery was a large built woman,a bit stern looking with jet black hair.

Sounds like it was her momac,she was stern looking,the girls nominated me to tell her we were not paying the full price

She could drive but said that she had no sense of direction so asked clients to go to her house..did you go to her house n.j.

No momac she came to my friend in Pemberton

She must have had more confidence then.

Margery was related to the young boy who went missing in Ince in the 60s, his dad was her cousin.
