Footpaths are lethal this morning
Take care out there, the overnight rain has frozen and the footpaths and most roads are like a skating rink.

Can you not buy cleats that wrap around your shoes?
Replied: 30th Dec 2020 at 13:07
You can buy woollen socks and put them on over your boots or shoo's that is what the old uns doo, and they don't slip
Replied: 30th Dec 2020 at 13:26
Postmen have snow grips. My postman gave me a pair.
Alternately, you can put bolts through the soles of your footwear and tighten nuts on the underside. Hey presto, no more Mr (Mrs) slippy.

Tommy,I couldn't find my cleats so put woolly socks as you say,and it does work.

I don't mind the cold, but I hate trying to walk on ice. I have a good pair of wellies which stopped me slipping this morning.
Replied: 30th Dec 2020 at 18:41
I didn't fall. I stayed at home.
Replied: 30th Dec 2020 at 19:00

i saw 3 joggers out today on very icey out of town pavements. Baffles me. I like having bones unbroken

When I've been in Canada and I'm shuffling about and afraid of falling, then a see many natives walking normal at a fast pace, in just normal clothes and shoes , Its a mindset thing, if you think you are going to fall, it will impede your progress, If you have the confidence to walk/run normally and know you can recover from a slip, you will make more progress,
Me, I shuffle, because my reactions are not what they were and I too, like my unbroken bone status,,,

The night of the 30th I donned my trusty old boots which I bought about 25 years ago. The soles are ridged like tractor tyres and I've never had a fear of slipping or falling in them.
But, when I tried to open my car door, it was frozen solid and my big can of de-icer was in the car. Typical! But, I had a bit left in another can so tried that, but it didn't work.
Despondent and marooned, I went back into the house, but then I saw a car parked outside my next door neighbour's house so I went and asked the young man if he could help as I wasn't strong enough to pull my car door open, and he did, bless him.
He said the roads weren't too bad, and to be careful, but I told him driving in ice and snow doesn't bother me as I learned to handle icy on skid pads in Berlin when I lived there years ago.
Walking and driving on ice can be very stressful though and when you get an idiot screeching around and doing handbrake turns on the ice for a bit of fun, doesn't help, which was something I witnessed that night, and called him a few choice words.
Take care folks, and may this year be much happier than the one we've just left behind.

MMB, I think you’re having a larf.
It’s a ‘Duck’s bottom’, the sort that Teddy boys had by sweeping the hair on the back of their heads sideways.

It was blinking dangerous last night putting the bins out.

RMJ,
Been like that a good while and will remain until Spring. The good thing is that the pathway along the Bow Ridge is meticulously maintained. For that every householder in the catchment area pays about £4 a year. A steal at that price. Out shortly.

Folks, I think we’re all looking forward to warmer times.
Will Covid be under control by Spring?, I doubt it, but we live in hope.

Treacherous this morning. The footpaths look clear but don't be fooled it is black ice. ( am I allowed to say that these days).

Owd Dave takes his dogs out regularly, just spoke to him and he said people are falling everywhere,be very careful everyone.
Replied: 26th Jan 2021 at 11:05
It is very slippy, because it froze overnight (that means it was cowd) and then it has started to rain on frozen ground, so yoo can't see the ice under the water, hence lethal, and yoo end up on yer bum (oych)

Yesterday i saw a car drive down the road and I thought it had hit a patch of ice and spun round in the road. But no it was a village idiot doing hand brake turns on the ice ,Drove up and down the road doing this until he was clocked doing it then drove away The roads are slippy enough without idiots making them worse
