No friends of ours, GB. When we joined the EEC, Heath agreed for the fishermen to burn their boats for compensatIon, led by the nose.
How many of our ancestors are turning in their graves for what they gave up.

D'you know what? You're wrong! Furthermore, I can tell you why you're wrong.
It's because they are far larger than we are, far more advanced than we are, far more wealthy than we are, have more fuel than we have, more food (of better quality) than we have, etc. etc. etc..

As far as the rest of the World goes, well, who would you trade with between 27 nations buying power and one small, old fasioned, locked in the past nation, who's inhabitants are stiil labouring under the belief thet we are still a World Power?

We were left behind years ago. Get used to it.

Poor old Tonks. We have been in the EU for 40 years, why aren't we as advanced as the EU? Is it because they held us back? Why don't we have better food, more fuel? As for wealthier, yes the Eurocrats are, paid for by the poor citizens of Europe. Von de leyen earning £29,000 per month going up to £33,000 per month with expenses. Just imagine that over all the administration and the pensions now having to be paid.
Just look at Burnham. His office was voted "no" in the referendum, Leese said the vote would be honoured, then Tony Lloyd was ushered in secretly. So Greater Manchester has a tier of administration not voted for, costing millions. And that is how the EU works.
It doesn't give a fig for the man on the Croydon Bus.
Or even Tonks.
Happy Christmas Tonks.

Forget the politicians. They are crooked wherever they are in the World. £29,000 a month is like a piss in the pacific to some people.
As for the EU (the peoples of the member states, not the politicians wages) the majority of the nationals have a better lifestyle than us, they have a better health system, better pension, better everything as far as I can see. The only thing that isn't better is the benefits system which, of course, means a lot to those immigrants who want to come here for just that.

Tonks, you have listed how the EU has improved life for its citizens but you don't address the question of why GB (Great Britain, not Golden Bear) citizens do not enjoy any of that.
The EU is happy for GB citizens to work their fingers to the bone for its benefit, but not ours. Never had food banks before the EU, or providing sanitary towels for girls in school.
As for health care, we all know that is what the immigrants come here for. Time to sort the NHS out. It is NOT free, it is paid for by workers' taxes.
Enjoy another glass of French wine while you can, Tonks, and happy new year.

I don't drink French wine. At least, not if I can avoid it. I'd drink Raymyjamie's Westhoughton wine first!

Whups, what you said there is very true. However, anybody arriving in the UK are treated under the heading of a scheme called 'humanity'.
The sick are nursed, the hungry are fed, the cold are given warmth and the dirty are washed.
After they are 'processed' they receive benefits, should they need them, and they are entitled to anything that a lifelong national is entitled to and more, in some instances.

I've known foreign elderly persons (not even EU citizens and never having before set foot in the UK, let alone paid any contributions) to be brought into this country, sick and in need of care, and get a full care package free of charge, including expensive home improvements, all provided by Bolton council.
This was while my mum, after working from 14 years old to retirement age, was charged £602 a week for the same care package?
Anyone from the EU can enter the UK and get medical treatment.
After the 31st December, UK nationals are not entitled to medical treatment in any EU country.
That's not the EU's decision, it's the UK who won't fund it. BUT, EU nationals living in the UK can go back to their EU country of origin and receive treatment with the UK paying for it.

All this charity for foreigners, while UK nationals are having to crowd-fund urgent treatment for sick UK kids in other countries.

Meanwhile, UK politicians continue to put their close friends on t'wages.

Whups,
You keep saying that. It is utter tripe. Do some research. It is well documented. Simply Google “ Asylum Seekers UK”

France has always been Germany's lap dog. They have despised the British ever since we defeated them at the Battle of Waterloo.

Use google to see Lufthansa planes shipping cargo in and out.
If the immigrants are so badly off, why are they coming here, then causing damage when they are here?

Golden Bear, what you describe is the difference in 'benefits' and 'aid'.

It's a bit like the age-old difference between 'theft' and 'borrowing' or , as in some cases, between 'false accounting' and 'genuine mistake' !
