maybe it,s because this tory government has got rid of thousands of cops & there,s not enough cover for them ? .

Or because he is incompetent?

Labour like to keep the incompetents in good jobs.

The police in every area of the country have had the same cuts. How is it then that all the other forces are classed as competent. Also it seems iffy that the chief constable went on sick at the beginning of the week

Gareth, well, he's just Gareth!

He goes off on one, regarding the Cheif Constable and the Mayor of Greater Manchester, then he comes out with the old chestnut, immaterial as it is in this context ...... " the Chief Constable and the Mayor have failed the people inc vulnerable people of the borough".

Gareth, you're running a petition, aimed at the UK Government, concerning the Mayor of Greater Manchester. Where does the word "borough" fit into this?

Replied: 18th Dec 2020 at 19:25

Posted by: firefox (3239)

He isn't running a Gov.uk petition, so he can get a million signatures and they won't even acknowledge it

23500 police axed under the tories,no wonder crime is on the up.
The detection rates are poor all over the country and no wonder if the police don't have the manpower!
A bit late Johnson is recruiting 6000 new ones they removed!
Burnham is criticised for doing his job as the elected mayor of GM over the unfair treatment of the citizens of the area. Without a shadow of doubt the government have tried to make a scapegoat of him,and after the mass testing in the Liverpool area which had limited success with the infection rates only similar to most GM towns which did not have the same testing system, they continually try to pitch one area against the other by unfair comparisons.
Personally I think it is a bit early to come out of tier 3 and I feel for the people who have lost their jobs, and those with businesses unable to function.
And Gareth Fairhurst is a complete failure at everything he has attempted so I won't be signing his petition, because that is as flawed as he is!

Why has Burnham not been asked what's been going on on he's watch....He is after all the Crime commissioner as well as Mayor and must have been informed of the results of the last four inspections...As they say the buck stops at the top.....

The Met polices a population of around 8 million.
The Greater Manchester force 2.8 million, Merseyside 1.5 million and Cheshire 1.1 million.
Combining the three north west forces would yield significant sums of money which could be used to pay for more front line officers.

Statement from Chief Constable Ian Hopkins:
These are challenging times for Greater Manchester Police. The force has a long-term strategic plan to address the issues raised by the HMIC and I believe this plan should be led by a Chief Constable who can oversee it from start to finish.
Considering what is best for GMP and the communities we serve, and given my current ill health, I have decided to stand down from the post of Chief Constable with immediate effect.
It has been an honour to serve the public for 32 years, nearly 13 of which as a Chief Officer in GMP. Throughout my career I have been committed to achieving the best outcomes for the people I serve. The decision to stand down is not one I have taken lightly but I feel the time is right.
I was due to retire in autumn 2021 and bringing that date forward assists in the timely recruitment of my successor.
I would like to pay tribute to my colleagues and the many dedicated officers and staff I have had the privilege of working with throughout my service.

For the resignation of an incompetent?

"The Labour Party originated in the late 19th century, meeting the demand for a new political party to represent the interests and needs of the urban working class, a demographic which had increased in number, and many of whom only gained suffrage with the passage of the Representation of the People Act 1884"

Now it's middle-class socialism.

Fossil, Whupsy and that Handsome miner.

The Tories should not have cut the police force, but Boris is taking them on again, but he can't find 20,000 coppers in a single afternoon can he.

Labour under Tony Blair and Gordon Brown pumped money into the police forces, and crime still went up, we were all suffering from it, the kids had taken over the streets, and I suppose those four million immigrants coming into the country didn't help things, and it came to a head in 2007 when Garry Newlove was murdered in Warrington by youths, and the public were saying what is going on, and the police admitted that they had lost control of the streets, because policing with all of the rules and regulations and procedures in place, was as they said like ....

"Policing With One Arm Tied Behind Their Back"

The criminals had been given too many rights, and clever lawyers were getting them off because of legal technicalities.

And those rules, regulations and procedures, were from the good old EU

A Chief Constable should be in that position having worked his way up there through the ranks. He should know the job, grass roots up.
Unfortunately, they are required to run 'the force' as a business.
If the Chief Constable of greater-anywhere was scrapped, his absence wouldn't be noticed.
