The “absolutely terrifying” impact of coronavirus admissions on Northern hospitals has been revealed, after leaked NHS data reportedly shows more than 6,000 patients are being treated across England:

As of Thursday, almost 6,100 patients were in hospital with Covid-19 across the country, 4,670 were receiving oxygen and 563 were on ventilators, according to the data.
Hospitals in the North of England are bearing the brunt of cases, with more than a quarter of Liverpool University Hospital Trust beds occupied by Covid-19 patients.
In Lancashire and South Cumbria, one in seven hospital beds were occupied by people suffering from coronavirus, and in the North East and Yorkshire almost one in 10, 1,531, patients were in hospital with the virus.
The NHS data was obtained through an investigation by the Health Service Journal and The Independent.

Across Manchester hospitals, the data showed 11 per cent of the region's beds are occupied with Covid-19 patients. One of the region’s intensive care doctors told The Independent the figures were “absolutely terrifying”.

An NHS England spokesperson said: “Coronavirus cases and hospital admissions are rising and so it is vital everyone does what they can to control the virus, particularly by following government guidelines.

“Social distancing is the first line of defence, followed by the test and trace programme, but if infection still then spreads, the NHS has no choice but to activate local and regional escalation plans.”

What about the 'Nightingale Hospitals' Wigan had one built in the car park, but none of them are in use

The ICU department and the extension on the car park is full. I fear more much needed care for others will be postponed even further.

Can that information be verified, corroborated and confirmed

Or is it Facebook crap !!!!

It would be very interesting if the media would publish the true amount of deaths due directly to covid instead of stating "death for any reason within 28 days of being tested positive".

Any reason? What does that tell us?

I am now not leavin house, without a mask on, and I think that graphic proves my point that it is the schools which have spread the virus, because the infection rates shot up when the schools reopened.

False news. Incorrect statistics.

I WAS there. No one is stressed and the attitudes of some staff leave a lot to be desired.

Effectively saying then that everyone else is a liar bar you? One wonders why you had to wait so long, usually non-urgent cases have to.

Urgent? It depends if you think a cough and a sore throat take priority over a mini stroke or a heart attack?

Not one person went out of their way to make me comfortable for the whole 8 hour stay. Even the nurse that wheeled me to the scan dept seemed reluctant to do so.

This was my experience of the beloved NHS.

My information comes straight from a doctor involved at Wigan. Forty plus have died these past four weeks.

How many of those from other illnesses?

As far as I am aware and information given they were all covid related deaths, Jarvo.

You didn't have a heart attack though did you, you had a TIA. The reason they kept you there so long was probably to monitor you and see if another happened. You got assistance even if they weren't sat on your knee the whole time.

The treatment would have been immediate had they thought there was a treat to life. Obviously they did not.

They probably recognized from his previous incarnation as a Poet/ Karaoke singer and left him alone to get their own back.

'No sign of second wave' as ONS data shows normal level of deaths for time of year'

There is no sign of a second coronavirus wave, experts have said as new Office for National Statistics (ONS) figures showed that deaths are just 1.5 per cent above the five-year average and tracking on a normal trajectory for the time of year.

Although Covid deaths rose to 438 for the week ending October 9 – an increase of 36 per cent from the previous week, when the figure stood at 321 – overall deaths rose just 143 above the five-year average. There were also 19 fewer overall deaths than in the same week last year.

Experts at Oxford University said the number would have to get to 1,200 deaths above the norm before it would usually be considered "excess" above the expected variation in the data.

Researchers also found there would usually be around 1,600 weekly deaths from flu and pneumonia for the same week. Deaths from coronavirus, flu and pneumonia are currently running at 1,621, suggesting there is virtually no increase in expected respiratory deaths.

The ONS figures also do not factor in the UK's growing and ageing population, which would be expected to increase the number of deaths over time and which are likely to cancel out at least some of the increase.

For example, between 2010 and 2019 the number of deaths for the week ending October 9 rose from 9,281 to 9,973 – about 70 extra deaths a year.

I wasn't.

No matter if patients do have "underlying" problems they have contracted the virus and died with it. I have had mixed experiences with Wigan infirmary, some excellent and some very poor indeed. On a visit one time an elderly gentleman had wet himself on the chair next to his bed, he called the nurse who said she would see to him soon, she didn't, I saw her stood near the desk chatting away so I went and reminded her that he was still sat there very wet and embarrassed in front of visitors, she said she would see to it when she was ready, I told her to do the job she was employed to do and if that was my father you had neglected like that I would see you unemployed. Another nurse came an attended to the gent straight away.

Look at it another way. If you had required surgery for example if it was not a TIA but a brain bleed, a drink would have prevented that surgery as it would have been dangerous to go ahead. You really are coming across as slightly petulant.

Desperate to be examined immediately and taken care of accordingly.
And the staff of Wigan Infirmary fell short in both.

You avoided my question. I will ask again, did some one accompany you to the hospital, when you suspected a stroke or TIA.
If your answer is yes, why did the person accompanying you not get you a drink. Nurses are medical professionals not waitresses.

Easy solution, don't like it, go private.

I see the headline but not a lover of %ages. There could be a headline of “ NUMBER OF DEATHS FROM CHEWING A 2B PENCIL UP 100%” On closer examination it was two deaths rather than one.
