I read (quickly) through the Environment Strategy whilst having a cup of tea and a toast butty.
What a load of rubbish it is! Full of wrong information.

This is what you get with the sort of people involved in this type of thing.

On Wednesday 4th November at Christies auction in London, there was bust in the auction of Queen Elizabeth 1st sculptured, in Cannell coal, by a prominent 18th cen. sculptor Robert Town who was active in Wigan 1756-1767 Estimated £1,500 £2,500
The local History Society contacted the council to see if they were going to bid on it, as the History shop have a similar bust of Henry VIII sculptured by the same man. The history society said that they could contribute around £500. The councils response "We cant afford it"??? O.K. £2000 is a lot of money to me and you but to the council, who have just ploughed millions into THE FIRE WITHIN project which is supposedly about Wigan's Heritage is a complete joke. Both busts together would have made a great display in the History shop. It sold for £2,,200 plus premium.

You can say what you want It's what they say that gets done

I heard there's a truck full of bullshit up for auction next week. The council have put in a £100,000 bid for it.
"It's important to us", said a council spokesperson, this morning!

The Historic Environment Strategy (HES) was approved at a meeting of Wigan’s Council’s cabinet members this week. (18th Feb, 4pm, Item 64 Link)

Cllr Terry Halliwell, the council’s heritage champion, said: “We had an overwhelmingly positive response in our public consultation which generated more than 440 responses with 95% of those saying they are on board with our vision.”
