Yes I can see what you mean Mick, and especially in winter with all the mud, but around there it is probably the wettest part of the Wigan Borough, and he has a choice of jumping in the canal, or any of the flashes, I wouldn't bother with the River Duggy though, and if it was me I would go and have a dunk in Scotmans Flash, because when I had me dog, which was an Alsatian which thought he was a human, and he could swim like a fish, the canal looks like it is full of crap, and most of the flashes are stagnant and are full of life and organisms, probably mosquitos, but Scotmans seems to have very clean water, and it is fed by two brooks, none of which are Sniffy Brook, but I think Scotmans Flash has a throughput of water, because me dog was always clean and not smelly after he had been swimming in Scotmans flash

This is were the public baths came in handy,less fortunate people could have a bath/shower

Yes and that is why they were called 'public baths' and they had swimming pools attached to them, that is why folk called swimming pools 'baths'

I think in Kevin's case though, they would not have let him use the baths to wash on the grounds that he was too dirty.

TTS you could pay to have a bath at the old Wigan Baths and there were also the russian baths.

I remember the Russian baths, when I was in so was a few of Wigan wrestlers
